So..

I'm not not a new member here, and I don't post too much either. I feel its about time to start a build thread, Largely for encouragement and tip/tricks to doing certain things, but also to have this build documented  :)

Ive owned a couple of 260z 2+2's but have always yearned for a 2 seater.. I put an ad up here, just to put it out to the universe that i was looking for a project 2 seater 260z and within 24 hrs i got response! Living in WA there are never many opportunities to buy a 2 seater Z so i acted as quickly as possible and secured my first 2 seater!  ;D

I have been i contact with a few people on here gathering up parts and panels for this restoration, but haven't got around to doing anything major yet. I have no previous experience with welding, but i consider myself to be very handy with tools and have always been mechanically minded, but more than that... determined!

I enrolled in a short welding course in Perth but after being messed around not once or twice, but three times, i decided to ask for my money back and since then haven't had the time to organize another course elsewhere.

A few weeks ago, the Mrs was offered a promotion in NSW and we both decided she take the job and we start a new adventure.. But, I had a few per-requisites.. 1. The Z must come over with us. 2. the house we get must have a workshop/garage. These 2 things are all i pretty much need to keep happy. She agreed and we are now in the hectic phase of packing and organizing for interstate relocation.

Back to the Z

So the car is a 75' 260z, red in color and had no engine. It came with a sun roof, re-skinned dash, R200 diff and a few other surprises..

after getting it home i spared no time getting panels off and pulling bits apart, It was quite obvious at some time in its life that it had, had a rear end hit. it has been repaired but looks like a rushed job (not pretty). after pulling both front fenders off i discovered the drivers side had been hit once upon a time too.. it was starting to look overwhelming, so i inspected further and it seems that these are the only two prangs on the car. they were both repaired but I'll be getting these check over when i get to stripping the body.

A good friend of mine and master Z mechanic Martin Falconer had an RB20det engine + gearbox and other peripherals for sale. He had once offered this to me a few years back, but i turned it down even though i really wanted it, $$$ wouldn't allow it.

I still had my 2+2 and decided i wanted this RB for my 2seater. So i sold my 2+2 and used the proceeds to purchase the RB20, it came out of a 260z so going back in one would be easy*

Ive recently had Martin put the engine in the car as it'll be easier to transport the car + engine interstate. At the same time the engine was installed, the gearbox mount got welded in.

the build will (hopefully) start to take off when we get settled into our new home in NSW. Not much has been done but this is a start and i hope to see progress very soon!

I have a few pics of the car and engine - i know pictures can tell more than words sometimes. :)

Parramatta is a decent area, A LOT of development going on around there, they are trying to turn it into the next CBD. Its my go to suburb, you can pretty much find anything you want there., and it has a mahoosive westfields.

ALOT of Indians have been moving in lately, in my experience they are harmless. I would feel safe walking around at night. Church st is the restaurant strip, open all night every night till late, and the old church is converted into a Bavarian beer cafe. (read: German restaurant with the piano accordion dude playing most nights, lots of beer flowing, great atmosphere) -co incidentally, my go to pub!

Im about 15 minutes from Parra in a more ghetto, unsure if fireworks or gunshots at night kind of area.

Come round to a meet up once you get over, the Sydney crew has started doing regular meets nowdays, always great to have more people to talk dato crap with! bring the wife and kids, they all seem to have fun and get along at the events, i haven't heard a complaint from the wife since i gave her that black eye... wait what?........ :o

Oh good! I'm on the right track then ;) I like being close to a good pub or two!

Ive lived in pretty rough neighborhoods before, as 'interesting' as it is, there's always that thought at the back of your mind that everyone might stab you, but then i look at myself in the mirror and wonder the same sometimes.. haha..

I'll be sure to get out to some meets, the Dat Z is under construction but i can roll around in my 350z i guess? I'm always up for taking datto stuff or anything with wheels :) Don't have kids(yet) but the wife is a strong supporter for my project and that makes things so much easier get done. she understands me, it must be true love  :-*

LOL at the black eye comment!

Looking forward to meet some good like minded peeps!

Hi Scotty well done on getting yourself a 2 seater. I saw your car at Martin's place last week when he was making up the engine and gearbox mounts.

You have a long road ahead of you that's for sure!!!

Good luck with the move and look forward to reading about your build.

Cheers Mate :)

Ive gotta go see Martin soon and check it out in person! Ive been busy this week organizing things for the move, but am keen to get over there!

I fully understand how much work I've gotten myself into, sometimes it seems overwhelming, but i look at the bigger picture and imagine the end result will be amazing  ;D ;D

'Bout time I updated my story..

This week I purchased a donor car for my restoration. The previous owner has taken the floor/sills and most of the rear. the car was involve in an accident and the front and rear were banged up.. I mainly wanted the car for the roof turret and will most likely make good use of more of it. Anything I don't use, I will post on here in the 'Parts and Tool's' classifieds.

After getting the car to NSW form WA 6 or so months ago, I've put in some hours stripping the car of parts and discovering more little surprises. The car is going to need a lot of work, some of which I think will require a professional panel beater, so I'm on the hunt for good reputable beater in the Sydney area, preferably the western suburbs but that's not important too much. If anyone can recommend someone I'd greatly appreciate it :)

I've attached some photos of the new addition to the project.

Welcome to the east, what area did you end up choosing to base yourself in ?

Don't know any panel shops I would be happy to recomend but andyk_79 is using a shop in Sydney and seems to be happy with the work on his car.

Hi Peter,

We ended up in Baulkham Hills after a couple of weeks living in a hotel. Thanks for the link! I'll check it out ;)
