wings Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Hi has any body attempted to powder coat an entire car as the finish is unlimited and more durable than normal paint i am interested in the process and if it can be done , any suggestions Wing Quote
1600dave Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 The heat involved is probably going to rule out body panels. Powder coating is done "dry" - the paint is sprayed on as a film of powder and then heated to melt / cure the paint. Temps are pretty high (quite a few hundred degrees F), I personally wouldn't submit a car panel to the temps needed for the process. Works on larger bits, suspension, etc that aren't going to warp and buckle from the heat. I could be wrong though..... Quote
scott Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Powder coating does have some good points but also some bad points. Personally i will never get anything powder coated. I painted all my crossmembers is 2k instead. Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted May 6, 2015 Moderators Posted May 6, 2015 Interesting idea indeed In my experience powder coating does not give a finish as good or as consistent as painting. Cheers PB Quote
lightmaster240z Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Power coat is heated up to 700 deg to cook it on it is also porous Quote
