dat240z Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Hi fellas, Im waiting for my new workshop manual to arrive so that I can commence re-assembly after paint. A quick question though to get the ball rolling... Im aiming to fit the scoops/headlights etc and found that at the rear of the scoop (where scoop meets fender), there are studs that fit into the fenders. Is this normal? do they just rest in the holes and then are fixed to the body?? Sorry for a dodgey question, I couldnt find anything through the body thread. Also, in what order do the scoops go in? I have the headlight brackets, ring and actual light. Is it scoop first, then bracket, headlight and ring??? Quote

They should be threaded as when they go through the guard I think it is an 8mm nut and washer that tightens the scoop to the guard. If I remember right The headlight is installed from behind the scoop once it is attached. Hope that helps. Rev Quote
dat240z Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks Rev, yeah I couldnt see the studs poking through the guard, ill investigate further this arvo. 4 year build, and only now once the cars ready to be re assembled do I get a readable workshop manual and am waiting on postage.... nizm0zed Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 where the studs are located can get a lot of water splashed up on them over their life. Sometimes the nut will rust on and snap the stud when the scoop is removed. My original metal scoops had 2 studs busted on each scoop. My fg scoops just have holes drilled and a nut/bolt arrangement, a pain in the ass to get on because you need 4 hands... Quote

Yes grease the studs & nuts well when you assemble the car. Also grease the mounting screws/threaded inserts for the headlamp shells, they also like to rust & being small are easily broken off. Big dobs of heavy grease, pretty much out of sight anyway. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 19, 2015 Moderators Posted March 19, 2015 If your studs are stuffed on the headlight scoops, rivstuds are available (opposite to a rivnut; have a thread poking out available in M6) Just have to drill a hole where the stud was and set. Then you don't have to try and hold the bolt from the other side while trying to undo it. With the headlight, fit it into the rear bracket, then install the ring with the small philips screws, then four long screws secure it behind the scoop from the inside of the wheel well. Helps not having the wheel fitted BTW! Quote
