I'm back, although I never actually left the "World of Z".

I've got the bug again!

I've owned RS30 000797 since late 1982. A mere 8 year old car, owned by a pilot. I was the second owner and when purchased, it had 35K on the clock. It now has 115K. I was a member of the DSOC & then the NDSOC, back in the '80's.

The car has been stored for many years, as a consequence of a rear end shunt. As I have to move house next weekend, I need to move the Z as well. Pondering that situation, I came to the conclusion that over the next 12 months, the car will have to be restored to a, better than new condition, not withstanding some desirable modifications! I'll dig up some old photos of it and scan, and upload them. Current pics would be too sad!

I'm committing to a bare shell restoration, with new for old, reconditioned original and some contemporary upgrade parts.

Your going to find out sooner or later, so I'll mention it now. I'm also into Volvo's! I own a 1996 960 3.0ltr 24 valve Wagon (rare in Australia), a 1995 940GLE 2.4ltr Wagon and a 2006 V50 T5 AWD Wagon. I like wagons and I surf!

I should also mention that the car was running L28, tripple DCOE 48mm Webers, a biggish cam, extractors, adjustable front struts, koni's, 16" x 7" & 16" x 8" Simmons mesh style and all of the usual stuff you could get in the 80's. Custom "new penny" copper coloured 2 pac paint, custom metal front air dam. Debadged etc. Towards the end I ran early 240 SU carbs, which I still have as it was a daily driver for a bit.

I had thoughts of 3.0ltr injected motor in the back of my mind, but Webers would suffice, as it won't have to be a daily driver now.

So, where should I start? Who has some words of wisdom for me. I've forgotten most of what I knew about Z's!

I know what you mean! I just spied a nice 262 (282) at the RACV Car Show at Mornington Racecourse on the weekend, in EC, running a Lexus 4.0ltr/ Celica 5 speed + all bells and whistles. Something which I could easily have been drawn towards as a new project, but I just have to do the Z before I fall off my twigg!

Welcome to the Forum.

Another early 260Z - valued a little more highly than the later Zeds by some and a little different to the later 260Z's in several features. What month of production is shown on the tag on your vehicle?

Sounds like it was quite an exciting car and, given the low kilometres and your knowledge of exactly what it was like and how it was stored etc. you should be in a good position to work out what you want to do with it and what might be the most worthwhile direction for the project. You must have good memories of your previous Zed experience to have kept it in storage for 25 years since the bingle.

Do not be frightened to show us any pics both good and bad - they are appreciated by all who view the Forum and can provide great record of the rebuild of a car. Pics of the car at its worst at least establish a base to show how far you have come.

We look forward to hearing and seeing more of your car as events unfold.

Regards

Dave

Bloody Volvo Drivers.

Before I was born my father had 2 different P1800's story goes he sold them when I came along. Something I bet he regrets now, and I really wish he kept at least 1 of them. I think there is a photo of me as a child with the P1800 in the background.

Anyway as mentioned post photos of your Z - we want to see it now in all it's 80s go fast bits glory.

My mum used to drive a Volvo Station Wagon like this.

But it was never quite that fast.

Hi Bud

Volvos hmmm well yes what can I say not a Z car but have they made some interesting coaches .

Advise haven't finished my own Z project so I don't pretend to be qualified  other than that I don't think there is a better car built for the money in the 70'S

So time and money well spent - preserve a true classic.

LOCK ME UP AND TROW THE AWAY KEY.

Cheers AK

I have started my own bare shell strip down and I found quiet a few hidden problems  that would not have be found unless I did the full strip back - so it should be time well spent.

It's been a while, and not a lot has happened. I've got a lot inspiration, but not much perspiration as yet. In the very near future, I'll be pulling the drive train & running gear out. I need to make a start, before any other projects get in the way!

I can post some old pics I found. Very 1980's pics!
