Just bought a 1979 280ZX. No idea what I am doing...... it should be immediately clear I have no idea whatsoever.

Cheers

Dave

Probably shouldn't have bought a 280ZX then Dave. 240/260Z's are a lot simpler to work with due to the lack of EFI, 80's electronics, and pollution gear.  But having said that, you should be able to work out how to fix stuff given all the resources available on the net these days.

welcome to the perth zed scene!

hope you figure it out, as others have mentioned, old efi cars can be a maze of wiring and vac hoses.

just take your time and work logically though it, if you start unplugging things get some tap or tags and mark each matching pair with a corresponding code so you know where each bit came from and goes back too. and photos. lots of photos as you go, visual clues always help.

good luck

Get a small label printer, I'm going to get a small label printer from Office Works to properly label all the wiring terminals and loom etc.. Much better than sticky tape type labels that can come off easily etc..

Thanks everyone for the welcome.

Thanks also for the tip on getting the earlier model... I had known this but 260Zs seem to be as rare as hen's teeth. Linton - no not a blue one on Tenth. There is a beautiful blue one in Cottlesloe which the owner shows off by parking it on his lawn.

The one I bought is burgundy and has minor rust problems and the interior is a disaster - it looks like it has been used as a bird cage and the previous owner tore out have the dash to install an intangible, invisible speaker system -  but the engine seems to be in really good nick.

Already this forum has been very useful. Dynamats! Never heard of this before!

Car gets a compression test this weekend, brakes next Thursday. I'll set up a thread about the very slow build on the correct board...

Welcome Dave

Jinxed often posts cruise days in the WA events section, (mostly 300ZX) but get the occasional early Z showing up

Also, we like pictures :D
