I WISH TO PURCHASE (and/or swap) A GOOD 5 speed manual gearbox to suit my 1977 260Z into which I am puting a rebuilt 280Z motor. It was a standard 3 speed auto. I have lots of 260 2+2 zcar bits (motor, 2 off 3 speed autos, dif, panels, bonnet, rear glasses, doors and lots of other stuff) from which the current one was rebuilt that I can offer as trade but also willing to pay good money for a good box and bits. Car has been stripped and is nearly ready to spray and hence ready for gearbox soon. Will need box (or advice on an appropriate 'substitute'), clutch plate, fly wheel and all the pedal bits for attachment. I'm not too mechanically minded so any help would be most welcome.

Thanx - I read it with great interest and have been searching the regular sources in Nth NSW (wreckers/ebay,gumtree,gearbox places etc.) with no joy as to purchasing a suitable box that will bolt on to the end of the 280 motor.

The quest continues.

Manual boxes do come up for sale on this forum from time to time, but good ones aren't cheap.

Maybe put up a WTB thread and see what response you get.

(FWIW I got my L28E and Manual box by purchasing a complete, running but VERY rusty old 280ZX)

Good Luck

Thank you again PB. I will be/am keeping an eye out across Oz for all possible options from scrapped, wreckers etc. I will take your advice and slightly modify the original thread post with a WTP prefix. I am prepared to pay a good price for a good box and or trade lots of stuff.

Cheers  :)

Hi Bruce

I just realised that this thread started as a "Wanted" listing - so my last advice re starting a WTB thread must seem.......

Cheers

Most all the city/suburban wreckers have no more older cars. Try some of the country wreckers around your way, r further out west or north west.

A older Skyline box from 70's to 80's, or a Bluebird box.

Ignore any 180B or 200b cars.

Thanks for that - I have spent a fortune on phone calls to wreckers all over NSW and southern Qld for an original 280C box and pedals etc. with no luck. A cooperative Tamworth wrecker also suggested a good R31 box and pointed me to a place where I can have the mods to the bell-housing done - looks like that is the way I will have to go as the painting will soon be all done....

Not cheap, but it's only money ::)
