dat2kman Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Saw the lap times for car 3. Early days yet, very early! It was all over the shop. Then again, it was what, mins 4 degrees out there early this AM,,,,, brass monkey bts! That MyLaps app/site gives nowhere near the detail that Natsoft uses, bugger of a site/app to use Quote
260DET Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Best lap 52.47, quite happy with that under the circumstances. This Z, like any of the other heavier more powerful cars, is not ideal for MP but I don't care although it would probably go OK on the H circuit which they won't use because a couple of serious crashes have occurred there. Including a Porsche of course. Quote
dat2kman Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 That Porker get helped off by a Datsun too? We'll eventually get them all. As comparo, what was Falkiner, Siddins doing., times wise? Quote
260DET Posted June 27, 2016 Author Posted June 27, 2016 The Zed boys were in group 5, near the top of the heap as usual. Quote
260DET Posted July 21, 2016 Author Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) A couple of pics showing the box I made to enclose the shift mechanism, note the flip lock out in place when using sequential shift only. In the top right corner of the pics see the beaut gear number indicator light which reads from one to four. Have a new set of Hankook soft Z214's on order, the Hoosiers are absolutely well past their heat cycle limits. As far as the auto goes, during the last sprints I was able to out drag a MANUAL light weight V8 engined sports sedan from a standing start after shifting to second early because wheel spin. Torque multiplication for the win. Otherwise the auto is still a work in progress, waiting for the next MP practice day to take some data. Basically I'm leaning how to program the TCU myself, will need that skill for Bathurst because MP is too short to properly test fourth gear and the TCC. Edited July 21, 2016 by 260DET Quote
Bonkers Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Neat and functional. Looks good Richard. You may want to put a lining along the side of the latch so as not to wear a grove in the selector. Last thing you want is it jamming at 200 kph and have a what the F moment. Quote
260DET Posted July 21, 2016 Author Posted July 21, 2016 Your suggestion noted thanks Aub. The dash and control area is looking a bit of a mess now, everything is functional but it's what happens when you start off with a road car and then progressively mod it to be something else. Quote
dat2kman Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Aub, it's a Sports Sedan, they are supposed to be ruf'n'tuf,,,,,! Quote
260DET Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) Sports Sedans and 2A Sports cars class are basically a catch all eg the one I out dragged has a space frame, mid mounted engine and lightweight panels. At MP I voluntarily enter this Zed as a Sports Sedan, not that it really is one but because it has a V8 in it. Even the wing has been taken off. Edited July 22, 2016 by 260DET Quote
Bonkers Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 I see your car as an excise in engineering. Something we all probably would like to take on . But it only looks like a Z on the skin . Underneath it is a whole different story. To me that is what a sports sedan is. Don't get me wrong Richard , I am as jealous as hell of it and I would do my best to stay with you round Lakeside. But we both know that would be an excise in futility on my behalf. Still Jason ,fives minute of effort for a plastic strip to be put in place to save a what the F moment is time well spent . I am sure you have had your share of moments when things have gone wrong just when you don't need them to. My last trip to Lakeside was expensive because I choose to use some almost 50 year old rods and bolts from HS30 000046 in an engine with twice the power it had. You can imagine how that went. We live and learn Quote
260DET Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 The Z31 project will be much closer to a full on race car than this one Aub but even then it won't be anywhere near a full spec Sports Sedan. Basically I build to suit myself and not to any rules formula, all this car needs now to reach my idea of it's peak is to get the auto fully sorted and stop it wagging the tail at every opportunity, which could be just tyres. My greatest enjoyment is to get some build detail right and to drive a nicely balanced powerful car that I have created. Quote
