Hi all

Seems I've got a few electrical gremlins - most I've figured out but not so sure about this - facts are:

- 1971 240Z with 'pass button' highbeam flasher on end of indicator stalk

- High beams do work when lever pulled towards driver

- High beams do not work when 'pass button' is pressed

- A single black wire is hanging with nowhere to go, as shown below.

Help please? I have taken the indicator unit off and had a look but very tricky to get inside where that pass button operates! Not going to go taking it all apart unless I have to.

All that switch does is go to ground. When I added the relays to my headlights for low/high beam, I just soldered that wire to the highbeam switch ground wire. Normally it connects to the loom on the steering column but I did'nt have time to trace it so just did the above shortcut.

As pointed out that pass button just goes to ground. The other end is connected to a pass relay that is usually on the drivers kick panel area. I have seen a car with the switch but missing the relay and just a jumper plug to get the lights working again. I have also seen the very little wire that connects to the button burnt out. The guage of the wire is very very small 22ga or less.

FYI my 1970, 72 and 73 240z's never had this switch. But my 260z 2+2 did. I always thought it was a 260z option.

Yep you're right Gav, it is likely from a 260Z. The option was available in early cars but seems only in Japan, where the button just had a small white dot on the end of it rather than the 'pass' lettering - which came with the S31/260Z.

Not a bad thing to have it mind you but my 260z 1 never worked. It had the previously mentioned burnt out wire. I resoldered it but still didn't work from memory. Really wanted it to work also.

Wish we got the rally/calendar clock with the oscillator box in our market.

Take the column cover off, at the base of the idicator stick a thin white wire comes out, it always cracks or snaps at this point
