Alfadog Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Hi all I eventually found the cause of an intermittent starter issue (crappy immobiliser), but now that I can reliably crank the engine I can't get it to start. Engine is L24 with triple Dellortos. No choke is hooked up but I figured it should start with a few pumps of the accelerator first. However, it just doesn't seem to want to go. Is there a trick I'm missing? Quote
dat2kman Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Your fuel pump is delivering the fuel? Are spark plugs wet/smell of fuel after you have cranked it and pressed accel pedal twice only? Quote
Agno Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 My Dellortos are a prick to start without chokes but with a helper holding the chokes open it will fire first go. Don't pump the throttle at all, just let the fuel pump fill the carbs (if you have an electric pump) and then crank away! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 22, 2014 Moderators Posted April 22, 2014 Make sure you have spark and that fuel is getting to the carbs and filling the bowls. If you have all that, it should all be go. Quote
Riceburner Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 If you've had recent starting issues are the plugs now fouled or wet? Try cleaning with a wire brush and re gapping them. My old triple dellortos started first or second go with no chokes and three pumps of the pedal. Quote
Alfadog Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 Thanks everyone for the suggestions- I recharged the battery, cleaned the plugs and changed gap from .039 to .043 (it has a Pertronix ignition), and it started! The real test will be if I can start it from cold again. And then I've got to get this thing tuned. It does not run well. Quote
