Jules260z Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 hey im thinking of putting vertical door hinges on my 260z (just thinking), it would be something different aye, what do you guys think? and would it even be possible to do and find ones for a 260? prob need custom ones made aye and a bit of welding. :-\ cheers Quote
JP240z Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 i think its a slightly better idea than throwing in the bin the 1-3K it would cost to get it done right. key word: slightly. Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 Hmm, yeah, it would definately be different. Nearly anything is possible depending on how much money you are willing to spend. Not sure they produce commercial kits for this sort of conversion. So you'd have to get everything custom designed and built, which would cost a fair whack. On top of that, I expect that you would have to undertake a fair bit of modification to the body in order to fit the hinges and allow the doors to swing upwards. I'm, personally, not a fan of scissor type doors. Not sure how they'd go on an older type car either. Quote
JP Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 MSA have a vertical hinge kit if youre that way inclined. Quote
620Z Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 There is a Red Zed in the states with them on. I am still not sure about them. But since they weigh a ton (aparently) so I won't be getting them. Can't have that weight slowing me down. Quote
sco_aus Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I reckon it depends on what your car already looks like. Personally I reckon it would be great to see one in oz with it, I have noticed a pattern of all the zeds starting to look the same and im guilty too. If you have the money and want to spend it and it wont look out of place with the rest of your car, then go for it. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 I like the idea of the wull wing or sizzor doors. AS allways each to there own when it come to car. Good luck Bruce Quote
sco_aus Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Ill add that the practicallity of them is 10 fold of the normal ones too. Im sick of squeezing out of the car in carparks and trying not to hit other cars too. Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 Yeah, the carpark is an added benefit hey? lol. Especially with some of those places making carparks just wide enough to get a car into and making it an arse of a job trying to actually get out of the car. It's getting rediculous in some places. sexual_sushi Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 ive always wanted to reverse the doors so they open backwards rather than fowards. thought it would look cool with the bonnet opening up the way it does Quote
JP240z Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 i find i get the same effect by driving in reverse. Quote
benny Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 haha that was funny.... good call.. the name for those types of doors are "suicide" alot of hotrods have them... BenJi Quote
modular9 Posted October 26, 2007 Posted October 26, 2007 gullwing doors FTW. The shape would look awesome sort of like an old school transformer sort of thing. But from the sound of my doors closing i think the doors are damn heavy which would mean some serious strengthening. Never really liked suicide doors. Look odd plus if they arent done properly you get some odd drafts while driving. ( had a drive of a riced out doof doof crx with suicide doors and well i am glad i got a zed ! ) Quote
ZD44TT Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 the doors are so long, old and heavy I'd be impressed if they consistently worked well over a period of time. Quote
Jules260z Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 thanks guys for the input, like i sed it would be different but u made a good point the doors are pretty heavy so there would be alot of mods to do, still intrestersted in doing it but dnt think itll happen for awhile. cheers Quote
