chris240 Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 This is interesting...Ive helped out mates remove the old tar before from a few zed cars now, and its come off so easily, without the use of anything chemical related, just a medium sized screwdriver. Im wondering if having bugger all humidity during a zeds life has made it easier to remove the tar ? The gunk is usually very brittle....well it is on the zeds in my neck of the woods, including Rev Daves new zed.. Dry ice huh, must also work wonders on chilling beer quickly ! Keep up the good work Crackers. Quote

Keep up the good work Crackers. I guess climate would play a big part... my car was a Canberra car until around 2007 so maybe that has helped. In the top photo of my tar removal so far, it came off fairly easily. You can tell by the residue, or lack of, on the trans tunnel, that it came off "relatively" easily and in bigger chunks, yet towards the front of the car you can see lots of black residue where it has become far more difficult. I had thought it because of there being far more heat closer to the engine, but of course that is not necessarily the case. Quote
chris240 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Did Peter ever tell you the history of the car , previous owner etc ? I didnt get a chance to have long chat with him , when we met in Bright with the boys. I thought the car also spent some time in Toowoomba.. It was just screaming for a good clean and detail when I last saw it, looking good now however. Quote

Pete may still get on the forum every now and again so may be able to correct me if I am wrong, but from memory of our discussion, the original owner bought the car in Canberra from Lennock Motors (still got the dealer sticker on the rear window, and the dealer deposit receipt somewhere hehe). It lived in Canberra until sold to Peter, and he kept it in Toowoomba and Wodonga at different stages (again from memory but I think he lived in Wodonga and often had long stints of work in Toowoomba). When I bought the car it had been kept in Wodonga for at least a brief while and wasn't really being driven regularly due the maintenance it needed. Glad you approve of it so far - the photos do make it look a little better than it is - still some small patches of clear coat on the roof need attention and there are always things that need doing, but I am extremely happy with it given I drive it regularly enough to call it a "daily".
