Hi all,

I am chasing an R200 LSD and I currently have found two options which are give or take the same price:

1). A member on here has a 4.3 from a DR30 for sale.

2). Or, for the same price, I can get this 4.1 (my preference), delivered to my door, from a Japanese seller. Complication is, the seller doesn't know if it is an R180 or R200. I am inclined to say it is an R200 as it looks rounder but it is hard to tell from the angle of the pic.

I have found some pics of R180s and R200s side by side with a simple google search, but was hoping someone else can confirm for me before I part with the dollars...

Anyone who knows their diffs able to confirm if it is indeed an R200?

Here is the pic of the diff in question:

I would prefer to keep my money in Australia but I would also prefer a 4.1 ratio. As the price is more or less the same, my issue is getting lumped with an R180 which I have no use for...

Can anyone confirm with certainty any which diff is pictured?

Thanks guys!

Thanks guys. Yeah it looks like an r200 to me too, based on the pics I have found on google, but I wanted some confirmation from those in the know prior to forking over the cash and importing it!

If anyone thinks it doesn't look legit for my 260z please say so now cause I think I'm about to hit the order button :-)

Get him to show you a pick of the numbers on the crown wheel so you can confirm teh ratio, thats what i would be worried about.

OK gents so this diff is winging its way to me from Japan as we speak. It is a NISMO one - anyone know if these are any better or worse than the domestic market clutch packs? Apparently this one only has 15,000km on it so I won't be rebuilding it in any way at this stage.

Either way, I have a new strap and a new mount, and I basically have another week before it arrives to source the missing pieces of the puzzle - the infamous red cog for the speedo as well as the larger carrier (PN 32707-66300 I am led to believe from Google) to make it all work properly.

Does anyone...

a) have a spare cog and/or carrier

b) know a good place to buy a new one

c) know which Aussie delivered cars have these such that I can ask at the wreckers assuming options a and b don't eventuate.

Thanks gents!

I have the diff installed now. It makes whiny noise when under load like a proper race car :-)

The acceleration does't feel much different, but obviously with the 4.1 ratio i am changing faster and i'm in the power band at speeds suitable for daily driving. Also i can get the power down better of course although both wheels will spin quite easily - no clutch drop required.

I drove to the sunny coast on the weekend and the revs are high (as expected). I haven't replaced the speedo cog so I am just adding 19% to the speed it says on the speedo. So 110km/h on the highway my speedo is reading 130! (the cog is on the way).

Not sure what the revs are at as my tacho hasn't worked since the engine transplant and no amount of fiddling has brought it back. yet. But it is not very good on the highway - knowing what i know now I would say that a 4.3 (which i was considering purchasing from a member here) would be horrible on the motorway (at least unless you had some other gearbox than what I have!) and so I am very thankful I got the 4.1 from Japan.

Speaking of which, I went through a bloke called Jesse Streeter who runs a Japan Auctions forwarding service to Australia. I highly recommend him - he was very helpful and i was able to get the 4.1 shipped to my door (in only 5 days!) and (inc his small fee) for less than the asking price of the 4.3 for sale in my own state. I think his site is jessestreeter.com

oh... according to the ad, it has been rebuilt 15,000km ago so should be in decent condition. that said, they may have lied.

Anyone else have a NISMO LSD Centre? Does it whine?

No the diff still should not whine . You can have any centre ina a diff it's the ring and pinion that make the noise .

If someone did not set the diff up correctly it will wine .

If it was bearings it would all the time . Ring and pinion it will be on or off the power .

Lee, pull the diff out, and get it to Diff&Gearbox Industries Newmarket ard Windsor, behind the Matilda servo.

It sounds very much like the centre was removed and replaced, but set up correctly, it may also need some bearings.
