zedevan Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 Planning to write up a proper build thread soon, but I've hit a Y in the road so to speak and am after some advice on what i should do. Am i better off waiting to get the headers I want to use before I drop the motor back in, or is it easy enough to do in the car? in my mind it seems like the threads in-between the exhaust and the intake would be pretty impossible to get to? Thanks! Quote
benny Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 easier to install when out of the car but depending on how well they hug the block it can make it pain for installing the motor... have done it many times both ways with not too much effort. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted March 9, 2013 Moderators Posted March 9, 2013 For me, installing headers when the engine is in the car is always easier.. plus its easier to install the motor without any extra's fitted to it. Quote
stevo_gj Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 I have found it easier to do it with the motor in the car but I have had limitations with the chain block I've used not being able to lift the motor very high. Make sure you block those ports up though! Quote
luvemfast Posted March 9, 2013 Posted March 9, 2013 In the car is fine. Just make sure your threads are clean and easy to turn bolts by hand/finger. Quote
zedevan Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Thanks guys, I might remove the intake then to give myself more room to play with and assume its not going to be that much harder to put back on in the car too Quote
PZG302 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Evan, Do it in the car, easiest if you put the motor in sans manifolds and then do exhaust first then inlet. If you could have salvaged the existing ones, you could have done it the way it was designed to do at the track....... Block in then put manifolds on head and dropp head on motor Exhaust was set up the way it was to ake it easy to do a head gasket at the track, we had to undo the three bolts at the first joint, undo the head bolts, unclip the injection harness and lift the head off complete with the inlet and exhaust manifolds. Agno Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 Just did it today. Easy enough to do in a day but if your headers hug the block be prepared to lose some skin/blood/hair and scrape knuckles lol Quote
