Roberto Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hi All, I am trying to think of the easiest way to replace the perished wiring harness grommet in the firewall. Both ends of the loom have plugs much bigger than the groomet hole itself. Who has done this before? Please don't tell me to remove all of the wires from the plugs Cheers Quote
jamo240 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hey Roberto...you can cut the new grommet, fit it to the harness and then face the cut down and that will do a fair job of hiding the cut, but the fact is the grommets are usually fitted (at the factory) before the connectors are fitted, so it is difficult to fit them on large harnesses with the connectors in place. Cheers Jamo Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 8, 2012 Moderators Posted February 8, 2012 I'd just slice through half of the grommet and then glue it back. Make sure you use a nice sharp stanley blade though.. Quote
Roberto Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Thanks guys, I have taken your advice. It looks ok and has a good seal because the firewall holds it all together. Quote
zeds4ever Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 A BIT LATE I KNOW BUT YOU COULD HAVE MADE A NOTE OF WHERE WIRES WERE SITUATED IN CNCTRS THEN REMOVED THEM FROM SAME. THIS WOULD HAVE ENABLED YOU TO SLIDE THEM THRU THE GROMMET & THEN RELOCATE THEM BACK IN THEIR RESPECTIVE POSITIONS . AS LONG AS YOUR HAPPY. REGARDS:ALAN. Quote

DatPilot Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 You can lube it up with silicone spray and slide it over the plugs. Rubber is stretchy! Just spray it and leave it overnight. Some WD40 may help too. Only downside is it fecks the glue in the electrical tape and you may need to re-wrap it (Nitto tape only, there is no other) Quote
nizm0zed Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 Perhaps a water based lube would be better suited? to avoid any damage to the glue compound on the tape. However, asking the missus where the KY is then going out to the shed may seem a bit suspicious from her point of view.... Just makes for easier reading methinks & th msge gets ax. In regards to this, no, it doesnt make it easier to read. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,1402.0.html - Please use correct punctuation and grammar in your posts. This not only makes it more legible for others to read (increasing the chances they can help you), but it helps with the overall quality of the website (forum) and makes you look more intelligent. For example: "I NEED HELP WIF A CArBs Pr0B" is not easy to read and won't help others when they are searching our forum. Quote
