I agree with the stock Z as they will come down in price dramatically if you can wait 3-5 years. (The Nismo will be well over $100K). I couldn’t wait as I’ll be getting too old to keep driving manuals and hoping the Proto Spec model will hold its value much, much better given there will be less than 700 ever sold worldwide. Well, that’s how i sold it to my wife. Won the lottery marrying that girl. I’m sure she’ll want some matching shoes for drives although she’ll struggle to find anything decent in yellow.

I meant that I also wanted to sell my white 260Z to help pay for my overpriced Proto Spec but given that values are dropping and will continue to do so for a while, I'll have to "save my wife some money" by holding onto it. Most likely the 74 260Z will be worth more than the Proto Spec one day?

Bugger, I just got hold of a Proto Spec from Nissan and was going to sell my "one-owner" 74 260Z I love so dearly to help pay for the new, overpriced Z. I guess I'll have to tell my wife that I'm saving money by holding onto it longer.

What's worse is when it's in your car, you can look at it, touch it, turn the knobs but it hasn't worked in over 20 years. I guess a Vintage Air unit will go in one day; might even rip out the heater core and seal the air vent whilst I'm at it. Lucky the Z's have the two air ducts that don't trap rubbish (in the cowl), rust out the top of the firewall, drip into your cabin and rust out the floor, make you swear whilst lying upside down ...

When I bought my 240Z years ago and joined a car club, a few of the older guys had 2-door 260Z cars that I had not known even existed in Australia. I started looking to find they were $5-10K cheaper. After speaking to them and finding out more about the history, I kept remembering one thing. They all said that they should be MORE expensive than the majority of 240Z (series 2 & 3) because they were much rarer and a better car to drive. So I bought a solid, one owner 74 260Z 2-seater (proper carbs, pre-anti pollution and 1 of 400 odd) and have enjoyed watching it rise in value almost as much as driving it. A much better car than my 73 240Z. Chassis is almost identical but feels a little stiffer and the running gear is much nicer. I guess the old blokes were right.

Maybe a typo, but that 260Z is ahead of its time being a "1966" model.

Yes, the collector, not a JDM player, took a punt on this 260Z and would have only made small money on a big risk at auction. ZShop probably tried to make some cream on Scumtree after sorting the car ? Investor may have been happy to recoup costs plus change after getting stuffed around by his regular "people" who have no JDM knowledge - then getting car sorted by Zshop. Just speculation on my part. If you start with a $40K 260Z 2-seater, you would struggle to get it to this condition for another $40K if you were outsourcing all of the work. Then allow $5K of your time managing the process and you are at $85K.

Thank goodness. I paid top end for an unrestored, one-owner back in Feb. Looks cheap now. Will the prices hold once the "band stops playing"? Hope so. I think the 240Z is growing in desirability globally with plenty still left to run and people have realised that the early 260Z 2-seaters are a more forgiving "S30" even if they are not truly an S30.

Looks like it. Matching wheels, mirror and rear strut-brace. Rust on the rear bumper is interesting.

Thanks. $40K plus $10K in rust repair is still a good buy if everything else checked out, do you think? Matching numbers, full history, one owner, older lady owner, etc Did all of that check out? I could not get anything out of them after the first two discussions so I called it a scam.

I'm calling this as a scam ... it's 260Z, old lady, one owner, too good to be true. Avoiding direct mobile calls but picking up all calls from the Carsales hidden number, trying to get more on the hook. No. It was at $116K when I stopped refreshing the page. I went back a 2 or 3 minutes later and the auction was over. When it ended, it did not list a final price.

Yep. It didn't quite finish at 9pm (AEDT) as it went into "BONUS TIME". Something I was not aware of. I was purely spectating as bidding started at $101K and way past my slush fund. I got annoyed and switched off at $116K at approx. 9:10pm. It could have hit $120K but with the 5.5% buyers premium, someone will be out of pocket over that anyways. I suspect a backroom deal was done with the Marcos to get a hold of the car's logbooks, ownership history and resto paperwork.
