Hey mate would you sell your too far gone one ?
-
By the time you pay at least $1050 that he wants plus freight it would be more than the American option
-
Yeah it's at least worth a shot, I would also rather use the money for shipping to bring a whole car over instead of a roof Where to get a solid 2+2 roof from thought? I see your after one Gav, you planning to use it for the same thing? Also what do people think of getting a storage unit in America. I'm thinking of it for stashing a car away and anything else worth snapping up in America so I don't have to worry about shipping straight away ?
-
You could always search in America , down side is the conversion to RHD (unless that doesn't worry you) would also be over you budget by the time it was landed here. But it would save you more in the long run buying a relatively rust free one (not hard in America) than if you got a rusted out one in Australia that fitted your budget. Would also take one more from the Americans as they clearly don't appreciate them, turning some into all kinds of disasters and get one more on our soil. Food for thought if you still in the same position in a while Good luck with the search

Yeah I've seen that project thread, I could consider it. But I think I would sooner just pay more for a 2 seater as in the end it would be a lot less effort. Same with the whole panel beaters thing, I don't doubt they could do it but by the time I trailer it there and pay for labour It will cost more than the American option. This is why I originally wanted a composite material roof. There is a company In the uk that do one but shipping would kill me I reckon unless it's cheaper than america.

Yeah I appreciate your help Gav, as well as everyone else's. I'm actually in the Vic/Nsw border town of echuca but have family / parents know people all around Australia .I'll do more on myself when I start a build thread once I get the ball rolling on the restoration. still gathering knowledge and equipment. I'll also make sure to make a donation as well. As for my roof the other reason I'd prefer a new skin and not filling it in is because its massive, its more a moon roof not a sunroof. It wasn't a glass one it was a fold back fabric cloth one. Doubt it's even possible because of how warped the surrounding metal is and how big the hole is Thanks guys,
-
Hey guys, I'm looking for a 2 seater roof for my 240z Needs to meet these demands - no sunroof - not be warped and needs to have a good shape to it still - can have some rust if it's repairable but nothing to serious - price needs to reflect its condition - preferably in Victoria but that's not too important I'm happy if it's a bit of a project if it's fixable because it would meet my budget better Thanks guys

My dad called in to see ash, said he's a great bloke and they had a good chat. He's not sure on cutting it up so I don't think that's the one I'll get. That's fine with me as it would pain me to know that a RHD 2 seater s30 was cut up and I'll rather see ash stick it through and enjoy that car. Think my next best option is America? Unless I can find a mold for a composite material roof in Aus ? I like the America idea as I plan to bring over more 240z's in the future and would be a good learning experience. Anyone ever brought a roof over ? Things I should look out for / tricks I should know ?
-
Yeah my old man gave the bloke Ben got his off a call but they've sold there mold and doesn't have the buyers number. I could be interested in the one Ash has if there's no sunroof, should I give him a call or should my dad call in tomorrow as he's going to Moorabbin for stock for his business? Thanks

Hey guys, I've been looking into a solution for my roof skin which has a massive hole from one of the fold back tarp type sun/moon roofs. I don't believe it's possible to weld in new metal as the surrounding metal is buckled and the hole it self is possible to big to fill with a bit of metal. I then looked into shipping one from America but shipping was gonna be a killer(still might do it if only option). I was then thinking about a composite material like Carbon fiber but can't locate a mold for a 240z roof. If anyone knows of one or someone who will build me one ,I would love to know Thanks

That would be there 4 -1 epoxy http://www.spraychiefcustompaints.com.au/TDS/Epoxy%20Primer%20(4-1).pdf ? can you buy it off the net?
-
Hey guys, after searching and spending countless hours reading I have established that as I want to tackle one panel at a time fixing rust and priming as I go that I should use epoxy primer so it can sit around until the whole cars ready. I was however wondering what epoxy priming products are safe to be used at home in a garage whilst still being good at meeting the demands I'm after Thanks

Sorry NZeder didnt know this is what was going to happen to your thread, I was just interested in an update for the situation originally in the thread. Didn't see this coming

Sorry forgot the pics. I have a 1990 newsletter from NDSOC that says he came 2nd at one of there track days. From the I know that he owned it from at least 1990 when said newsletter came out up until he past away in late 90's then it was put in a shipping container till I bought it. Chassis is 894 and I don't know any other Regos but the one that came on the car when I bought it. Hope that helps ( I'll upload pics in different post cause my phone freaks out when I try it now ) Thanks

Hey guys, I decided to start this thread to help to try and find some info on my car. My 240z used to belong to Luke Mcallister (lukes run) who unfortunately is not with us anymore. I know he was apart of the NDSOC and was hoping some people on here knew him and the car? Might be a long shot and I know that it won't have massive amounts of history but I would just like to learn something's about the car and luke if possible? Anything is more than I currently know so anything helps. Thanks guys

Sorry guys didn't mean to start any arguments, thanks for the replies and I value everyone's opinion on the subject. I will be sure to start a thread about me and my Z racing closer to when it is happening (don't hold your breath). Your welcome to PM me if you think there is some advice on the topic I should know

I was just wondering if there was any progress in getting approval for the option items that were used in Japan and the like that's all, don't really need to start a thread as i would have felt like a bit of a half Witt starting a thread to ask how progress was going on another thread. I appolagise if it was an inconvenience Sorry to hear about your health issues limiting your racing. In a perfect world I would love to buy your race prep'd Z but got many limiting factors including the 240z I currently have that needs a lot of attention. However once my Z has been back together for a few years and I'm turning it into More of a race car I will be sure to start a thread to help determine what rules and regulation to build the car to fit within so I can get the most fun out of driving my Z Just wanted to see if there had been any updates with this thread that's all, thanks
-
Hey guys, sorry to activate an old thread and apologise if it's a bit annoying. But after just reading this thread would love to know if there were any further updates from the last conversations that were had in this thread. Or even if there have just been anymore changes to the whole scene to make s30z's more competitive in Motorsport in Australia Thanks

That's awsome man! Enjoy it. What you got planned for it? keep it as is?

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to stick with the dished that are in it to save cost but also as with E30 it gives around 10:1 CR depending on gasket which I think will go alright for my application. As for the head it's an old yella terra unit that's was fully gone over at the time (valves, springs, cam and a lot of porting but don't think it was shaved so should be stock cc chamber. but as for the metal it's done one weekend of abuse on a bit of a rally course my dad set up on his farm way back in the day and then has sat around, I'm yet to pick it up as it's at his brothers.another reason for dished was so I've got plenty of valve clearance with what cam I pick, was thinking of checking out the cam in it as it was a new billet and was a race one. As for where I read that was recommended only to bore 2mm I just read that on various forums,if its safe to go 3mm that good news and I'm happy to be wrong on that one
-
If it's reccomended to keep the l28 cranks I will do so. What do I now do about the E30 head as if I keep it a 2.8 the CR will be too high won't it. Should I opt to keep the dished Pistons with the e30 would that give ideal CR or could I run flat tops ?
-
Is it a problem to finish just under deck height? The thought of combustion in the cylinder not completely in the combustion camber doesn't seem good to me. With my e30 setup I will be getting quite a high compression ratio so will need big cam but will i then be getting into piston to valve problems?. I know this has been covered but can't find anything about it for my type of setup with e30 and so on. Calculated theoretical displacement at 2575 roughly along with 37cc chamber on e30. How big of a cam would you think I could run if I got it flush with deck height ?
-
Thanks guys Think I will just get it tested and cleaned. All internals are standard although it was used at the track ( it's luke Mcalisters old car (lukes run) ) I was thinking of putting l24 crank and rods I have sitting around and replace dished piston with flat top standard l28 Pistons. Anyone reccomended this setup. I also have a e30 head that my dad used on an old 2 door 240k that's had a lot of porting and larger valves put in it back in the day. This setup sound alright I plan to do a lot of track days/ targa and only club reg. sorry if this is a bit of topic

Thanks guys Some good products you guys have mentioned there, might just come down to price/avalability now. How did you guys go about preparing these areas for the products
