What's the date of the Z Day? I would be surprised if this car was finished this year. If it is, then the target would be motorvation in Jan. I struggle to work out how you spent that much money on drive-train gear! How much is a full build Rebello 3.2 race engine these days?

Mine are installed. Build thread link in signature, see previous few pages.

off the top of my head, add: all arp (?? can't remember brand name) studs ultra light weight flywheel (arizona zed car, 12 LBS. ) 6-puck clutch (arizona zed car) more valve work more head work l28 turbo oil pump baffled sump (arizona zed car) I think that's it. It's not really a race motor and I would expect about 200rwhp when it's going again

I love this car Ps, hydroflouric acid melts calcium and is also adsorbed through the skin. Ie, it melts bones. Don't use it without a thorough going over of the MSDS (material safety data sheet) and using the appropriate protective gear!

Welcome Matt, For parts, get in touch with the local zed guru/mobile mechanic/wrecker Tuneright Martin Falconer 0417 953 329

That is brilliant!!!

That's a huge shunt! Is everyone OK?!
-
That's all relative. In a 250hp zed that you're not trying to drift around every corner they are plenty strong enough. Lots of ratio's for a nice diff selection too I would use it if I were doing it again and integrate the diff based road speed sensor in as well. But back in the day $300 for a 5 speed rebuild vs $900 for a 6-speed was a no brainer

S15 6 speed

Also just noticed on the left of that pic there that the underbody protection has a crack in it. Will have to fix that quick smart to avoid rust eating it out!
-
We'll be doing that for sure. Not sure how to implement just yet, but before the rebuild the exhaust heat on to the trans tunnel next to the passenger seat was so intense it melted the paint and bubbled the factory tar inside and out of the car. Thinking a little shroud held by standoffs to the exhaust system itself just to make it easy.

Looks wrong to me as well, should be on the passenger side of the car.... Oh well, only 4 bolts and has to come out to mount the diff anyways Tank looks awesome! All shiny and new! End of the dreaded fuel smell?

To be honest, Dad works on it cause it's in his driveway and I'm 30 minutes away. 30 minutes can do crazy things to a man.....

Uh-oh... Meet Banjo and Kippa :'(

Faark that looks good! So glad the door locks are powder coated this time - the paint chipped off far to easily last time, only looked good for 10 minutes. **EDIT** However, is that the standard gearbox mount that I see in the bottom left? Where is the modified one for the Silvia box? Might have an AS NEW gearbox mount for sale

I'll just fix that for you there.... Zed's are SUPER easy cars to work on - they don't get any simpler. There is not a whole lot to them and the more you can do yourself the better. Full Resto's have been done in the 20k mark - ReverendZ is a great example - but it's a huge effort. The more you do yourself, obviously the cheaper it is and there is no shortage of people who have done it before you and documented it all in words and pictures to make it easier for you, so there is nothing to be afraid of in terms of being able to do the work. You should be fully aware tho and comfortable with the fact it will cost a fortune to do and a HEAP more time than you expect. Mine's been a quick build at 2.5yrs. It's a lot of money to spend on something you won't get to drive for a very long time.

To sunroof or not to sunroof that is the question?
Whittie replied to Fairlady Z's topic in General Discussions
I think this is one you need to decide for yourself. Personally - I LOVED my sunroof. On mild days, when it wasn't too hot, too cold, not raining, not windy, at low speeds, when the lever wasn't broken..... you get the idea Every other time the endless sun was unbearable in summer and it leaked like a sieve in winter. I got rid of mine without any hesitation, but if I could have a single large one (like you do - instead of the double window of mine) and made up some kind of blind like they have in modern cars so that I could block the sun out, Well, then I probably would have kept it. -
Getting there slowly:
-
That was the plan - same with the bumpers But after a screw up in my communication skills, the bumpers got painted blue and actually look brilliant, so I've gone with the blue tail light panel as well to make it all match I think it looks brilliant and in a couple weeks I'll mount it up to find out what it looks like on the car

As far as I'm aware he doesn't have one. Just call him, he's a really nice guy and is always happy to chat

Zed engines are not over fancy tho and for just installing a cam shaft most places should be able to do it right. Osborne Park Service Center do all of my engine work and they've been great for me. You really do need to keep Martin's number in your phone tho: Zed's is pretty much all he does and he's a mobile mechanic so can come to you. He and his brother are both Zed nuts and Martin wreck's zeds so has a heap of spares if your ever chasing something urgently.

Bathurst 2014 She'll still be a looker then

Unfortunately guys I regret to inform you that I will not be entering the NDSOC nationals at Philip Island this year. Of the 9 weekends before Easter I will be unable to work on the car for 5 of those. Then allow that the motor still isn't finished, it would need to be run-in and shaken down and then on a truck 1 week out from the event that leaves me with 3 weekends to get it from where it is to running reliably and on a truck - it's just not possible. Bugger

13 January 2013 Folks, well today marks the first 13th day of the year – unlucky? I like 13, pity this is the 14th page of this thread (14!!!!). It’s also 6 months since I last did a proper update on this thread and 3 YEARS since I decided I was going to patch up this car. TT Aero (Dad) has been keeping track of a few photos in that time but I thought it was high time I sorted you all out with a decent feed of the latest update pics! I won’t bore you with the details (actually, I will, that’s what I do) but she finally looks like a car again! Queue photo binge: Here she is on stands, looking pretty with all new nuts, bolts and washers. I’ve been installing parts following the reverse order I took them out thanks to the freaking thousand photos I took along the way (BEST IDEA EVER!!!) and Dad has been keeping himself busy going around behind me and replacing every single nut, bolt, washer, screw, shim, you-name-it with the smallest amount of material possible to get the job done; Weight Loss: Where things can’t be replaced, they’re being made to look like new, take this brass brake distribution block for example: Excess of elbow grease lying around perhaps? The main goal for today was to get the car ready for the brake mechanic to build new brake lines, so with a custom dual master cylinder setup being part of the program with an in-car adjustable brake bias adjuster being required that meant the dash had to be installed before being sent off. The dash is in TERRIBLE condition compared to the rest of the car, but the roosterpit almost looks complete again: I was travelling to work on the car today and passed an HSV with the ‘pretend’ paint job that I’ve got now. I love this colour! The suspension has all been put back in again, along with the hand brake (all new plated and replacement parts). Here it is for your enjoying pleasure: Oh the rust!!! Dad has also been thinking of some unique ideas to get these ridiculous European indicators to function without destroying the looks of the car or the grille. This looks like a keeper: So there she is as I left her 3 hours ago, sitting high and mighty after some loving, looking forward to a new set of brake lines along with dual brake cylinders to make sure she stops faster than ever before. That would normally be the end of an update for me, but seeing as I’m a shameless self-promoter, and the Dakar episode I’m watching isn’t finished ye,t I’m going to leave you all with a couple short videos taken on the GoPro that I’ve picked up in anticipation of many more in car vids to come. At 12 years of age, my Dad bought me my first remote control car, a nitro methanol powered l WRX 2 door. 12 years later and electronic technology has advanced considerably and I find myself again looking to fill the racing urge while the blue yonder is still off the road. For the cost of a set of race tyres (almost) I’ve accumulated 4 remote control cars in the last 12 months that I’ve been campaigning with great enjoyment at the local tracks. Here is the 2 closest track demonstrated ‘on-board’ with a GoPro mounted on top of the battery of my 4x4 short course truck: Th-th-th-that's all folks!
