    QLD LAPZ 2014

There is nothing stopping an informal get together on a particular day at Lakeside, I've been quiet because the Z is out of action and will be for a while. Another LapZ like we have enjoyed in the past is pretty well stuffed due to QR having made such an event too difficult for the club on several levels. And it is not only us, other clubs have the same problems eg BMW flat out filling a much cheaper weekday sprint. It's a pity that this forum is not used more to organise an informal get together or two at Lakeside

    QLD LAPZ 2014

LapZ was going to happen, the track was booked and all arrangements were in place. QR has changed it's pricing and conditions since the last LapZ which does not help any club trying to run such an event, the financial risk can be quite severe.
  3. Old mate going for a nice drive in his Porka, moving along nicely, but watch at 2.25, bam! owned
  4. It wouldn't be like that at all, it would be the same as now. We as owners/drivers follow one set of rules, those imposed by CAMS. Or AASA for that matter.
  5. First day on the circuit for the boys tomorrow, hope it all goes well for them. I'm planning on next year, complete with V8 noise.
  6. Don't understand the point seeing that we have to comply with CAMS rules as laid out by them and only them. What country/body the rules originate from is irrelevant to us for that purpose.
  7. PI owned by the Datsun boys, very nice going.
  8. What Mike said ^ particularly with CAMS slavishly following the FIA when it should be obvious that the FIA is not the be all and end all of motorsport safety. We in Australia can pick and choose from the best in the world yet CAMS puts it's blinkers on and subjects us all to the whims of the FIA. Where is the sense in that? Please explain.
  9. Rolling starts remove the real danger of standing starts, particularly where amateur drivers are involved, it is that simple. But I guess there are those with influence who don't want rolling starts for selfish reasons, this is where the human behaviour part of safety comes in but apparently the subject is verboten. Why, I wonder.
  10. Solid top all the way.
  11. A HANS gives only selective and partial protection against neck injuries, it's disappointing to see that it seems to be gaining some sort of mystical prevent all reputation. We need to be careful not to forget that safety is first and foremost to do with the driver's and car builder's ability. Primarily that's about not creating a situation which results in contact, no contact, no injury. Perhaps that aspect should be more vigorously supervised by CAMS but of course it's easier for them to require more driver's personal safety equipment.
  12. Blokes, I won't be going to Bathurst Only just found out that some spark plugs partially melted electrodes at PI which may have resulted in internal engine damage, engine compression test shows too much cylinder variation. Not going to risk a high speed engine failure at Bathurst so that's it for me, VG turbo engine will be pensioned off. May get a Chev V8 put in the Zed instead. My racing number is 37, a pit tent is paid for so anyone from the Z club Q is welcome to use it. I'd appreciate someone picking up my paid for stuff too, stick on's, shirt and so on. If no one from Q wants the tent then anyone else is welcome to use it. Let me know so I can advise the promoters. Hope everyone else has a great Easter weekend, just do a quick lap for me eh
  13. Garn Peter, you love the attention
  14. Looks like the wing element on order will arrive in time after all, the idea is to make a twin element using the info in Competition Car Aerodynamics to set it up properly. Have you got any elements suitable for a second Matt? The one I have is 80mm wide but really something around 100 - 150 would be better. PM your phone # if you like. Had to get a pair of O ring type injector rails made up to suit the new Bosch evo 14 injectors, the engine is running and booked in for a dyno tune next Thursday. Have a video camera setup that works well so everything is just about ready to go.
  15. Was going to replace the 'ebay spec' wing with something sort of semi scientific, oh well, there goes the confidence boost. Anyone got some go fast pills?
  16. Bloody unreliable suppliers Planned to upgrade the rear aero on the 280ZXT so there would be no excuse for not going flat through Caltex Chase, now, grrr......... Anyway it will be an adventure whatever happens, well, providing I'm not one of those crash and bash 'Speed Racers' someone with a underpowered rotary mentioned
  17. No, cause I'm going to Bathurst over Easter
  18. If there is one thing in life I've learnt and that is not to rely on some 'authority' to look after your best interests, you do that yourself. So from that philosophical viewpoint and without doing a lot of research I'll shoot from the hip and suggest that a device like the Simpson R3 may be better than a HANS, particularly in a closed road registered car doing sprints. The reason for that blasphemous comment is that the R3 provides side support as well which the HANS does not. My understanding is that with a HANS the side support is supposed to be provided elsewhere, my car does not have seat wings or anything else like that a eg V8 Supercar may have. I suggest that CAMS have simply got on the FIA bandwagon, as they usually do, without thinking all requirements through and what may be safest for drivers in all situations. And yes I do understand that a HANS is not mandatory for sprints, yet.
  19. Always a good weekend, both on the track and off. Should be in a position to do it next year.
  20. Matt, I'm guessing that the cheapie Ebay ones are all pretty much the same but am still researching that. Might get back to you later, got the actual wing dimensions handy? Sinisha, thanks for the offer, yours does work I've noticed but at the moment am looking at alternatives, seeing what's out there.
  21. Aluminium, F glass or CF, must be the straight type. Will need pics and dimensions, can pickup around Brisbane otherwise it will have to be freighted to me. Will pay a decent price for the right sort. PM would be good.
  22. Someone will have some, not sure of being silver colour though. Postage will be expensive to the US you realise?
  23. Oh my, beautiful as well as effective. Which reminds me. Phillip Island, Sinisha, fastest Zed.............. So????
  24. Do I get 10% of your YouTube bucks Sinisha? As your publicist No, you have done what I have tried to do and sort of accomplished a bit at Lakeside, which incidentally you should try, seriously. Great circuit, you would love it. If I ever have another go at PI it would have to be a balls out go, easy to say of course. General question to anyone qualified. How do you find the high speed limits of your car? Practically with details. Low speed is easy, what some don't seem to (want) to understand that high speed aero is another world. A fast and furious world.
  25. If I ever make PI again those are the lines I would try to follow, particularly T1 and 2 and T9, 10, 11 and 12. My favourite PI video.
