sorry I posted the same picture twice. If you know me you would know that I'm crap with computers.

The L28 ITB is ready to go. I have sat the manifold on just to see how it looks. I just need to get Jeff over now to help me put it in this week. fingers crossed without scratching the car.

Looking good mate. Looks like there will be some show to with all that go under the bonnet. Keep up the hard work, it looks like your getting the results.

Thanks Gav, I like the idea of a red rocker cover and I thought of doing it,but for now I might go for a "Matt alloy" finish. I would like to have a air box down the track in Datsun Orange. I just wish thing would progress a little quicker.

I hope it wont be too long until the L28 fires up again. I had a big clean up before I started to to put the motor together so I took a picture with a clean floor. I pretty much have it all done now just a few bits and pieces to go now before I can put it in. I painted the block in Old Ford Blue, I know it not like the true Nissan colour but I liked the look of a brighter blue. Soon I will be able to get Jeff around so he can help with fitment and getting it all wired up.

that would be great mate. It would be good to meet up with a few members and put a face to names.

thanks Paul it means a lot coming from a guy like you. I have read lots of your posts and followed your builds and they have really helped me with my build. So thanks very much for sharing your knowledge and love of Datsuns with us. I can't wait to drive my car, and a drive out your way will be high on my list. Your right Zedman stick to the budget. This was the set up I have always wanted and when this set up came along I thought get the ITB and if I'm not happy with the power build up a motor later. At least this way all the wiring and fuel plumbing is done. At this stage I will be happy if it runs good and sounds great.

thanks Gav it's hard to get the true colour on camera. I'm sure you will come up with the right decision when you have to. Just see how the body works go then you will have an good idea of what you can spend you never know you might get a raise and PMC can build you you dream L motor. I'm not sure you will need any tips. With a RB they are only going to see your tail light disappear into the distance. I used a cut/polish it wasn't very abrasive and they came up fairly good just a bit of time. I also cleaned the inside with a soft damp cloth on the end of a paint brush handle. ( no cut/polish) The inside looked clean before I started but after I cleaned them I realised how dirty they were.

I hope in around 5 weeks. My wife has been away with work so with 3 young boys I have had limited time to get things done, but I'm not too far away. Here is a shot from the rear that I took the other night. I sat at the kitchen table at night watching Fast & Loud polishing up the tail lights they looked good so I have fitted them.

This is my ITB L28 I got from Jason last year. I have stripped it all down, it need a re bore and a crank grind. I am putting it back together fairly standard as I need to stay in budget. I have spent a fair amount on brakes and body components and I still need seats. If I feel the need later I will build, or have built a L28 with all the fruit. I'm not racing or hill climbing so as long as it get me around the road OK I will be happy.

That would be great It should bee on the road in a couple of months...fingers crossed You should have this up in you shed... We all should have this up in our shed. Well said Ledge

Well after scrubbing up my old door trims they looked good enough to refit so on they went I put some Dynamatt down first so that should help with the noise in the car. I fitted the steering wheel just to see what it would look like after giving it a bit of a refurbish. It's time to get on the the motor now. I have now stripped it all down so it's off for a re-bore and crank grind then I can get it back and put it all together.

Well with some help from my dad I was able to get the dash in. This was much easier than I though it would be, but after the trouble of putting the dash back together it was nice for this to go smooth. I just hope it all works when I hook up power.

Great to see an update Robbo. I have been waiting to see the next installment of your story. I agree to to keep the water away until she is all sealed up.

thanks PB . I have built up the dash and have all of the instruments fitted now so it is all ready to go. I won't get much done over Easter as I will be away for most of it but I will try and sneak out to the shed when I get back.

I got the filler neck all sorted out and I made up some rubber for the filler and got the door back on. I had a new front screen fitted and the old glass was fitted to the hatch. I had this done, I was too scared to do this myself, he did a great job and the chrome trim went in well. It all sits nice and snug. Now I can put the dash back in.

Mate I am enjoying watching you take the first steps with your car. I'm so glad your doing it your self. Keep up the great work.

Well the rebuild phase has started. I started with the 1/4 windows. They were a little hard to get back in, it's hard to know how hard to hit them to get them into position with the new rubbers. I wanted them in to help me align the door frames. While I was sticking in the new felt for the door glass guides I managed to fit the petrol tank even with a hoist it was a real bitch to get back in by myself. I should of just waited for my mate to come around, but I got there in the end. I made up some new rubber for the straps and it sit and looks good. Now I can move on with the door build up.

your right PB I just need to keep a lid on things. If things are not going to plan I will walk away, and go back to things later

thanks guys. It should get easier now but it is also the stage where everything cost money. I Have some stuff already but those last few bits can add up. I have got the dash back from dash original and it looks a good as new. I have put all the instrumentation, ducting & wiring back in and that will go in as soon as the glass is in. I,m getting a professional to put the front and rear in and I will do the rest I got my full rubber kit from MSA when the dollar was good so I'm ready to go. It should be all down hill from here as long as I don't scratch it.

thanks Kato. When I was getting the paint the paint mixer told me only 30% of people would say it looked good and 20% were only saying that to be nice. But I think it has been mainly positive. That's what I love about this forum we have blokes putting BMW (love your work esp that new exhaust) & Merc engines in, late model jap stuff, and trick PMC L6 motors, building all different cars for different reasons with fabricators engine builders offering help and support.

thanks mate I'm glad your enjoying the build. i had a lot of help from my mate Derek. He is a big Ford fan but his love of the zed grew as we worked away. I helped him with his XC ute I thought zed were rusty until I started dork on his XC falcon. Thanks again for all the positive comments from everyone . They really help to keep me motivated

Well the day had finally arrived that the zed would be painted, the deal was to load her up on Friday and get her off to a paint booth for my mate Derek to paint. I was lucky enough to get the use of a paint booth for free, the only condition, no photos, and no disclosure of the location. So after a very long day on Friday to prep and tape up the car it was ready to go. As we left very early Saturday morning to finish off the last of the taping my wife said she had never seen me with such excited /nervousness since we had our last child. I said it only takes 9 months to make a baby, and lets face it the work the bloke does is fun then all you have to do is have your had squeezed and offer encouragement. But this was nearly 3 years of blood sweat and Beers. No more blocking down, if it wasn't right it was my fault, and I would have to live with it. As I watch my car transform into my dream in around two hours. I was so excited and could picture my self driving it. All I had to do now was sit back and let it bake. The following night we put the wheels back on the car and loaded her up for home. I'm so happy with the colour and finish of the car. The wife even said the colour looks good in real life. So with a big thanks to Derek, here she is. I will follow up with some more photo's soon as I start the fun part of putting her back together.
