Hi all , does anyone have engine pictures of the Electramotive / Bob Sharp GTU? 280zx Twin turbo v8? The one Paul newman raced. There seems to be conflicting information on the engine that it actually ran. Most of the information i found on the internet all seem to be copied from one another saying it was a 4.5lt v8 from the president (hinting that it was VH45) but the VH clearly wasnt around in the early 80's. I did find, though, a page from a book stating it was actually 4.2lt's, down from 4.4lt. Which makes a little more sence being the Y44 was very much available at the time the car was built. Either way i want to find some photos!, i cant find anything on the net heres the car:

hey thanks for that, when searching on the net your car was basically one of 3 that was popping up. Ive got the motor just sitting there on the mounts which the guy originally had the 308 sitting on, sits ok but i would like to get it further back like you say. Only thing visibly a problem would be fouling on the steering rack. Do you have any other pictures of your car, ive basically only got 1 or 2 pics i think. Not expecting powerhouse at all, but the engine will definatly be re-opened. The motor was apparantly rebuilt but i have no idea to what spec so ill have to measure it all up. The ports have obvious porting/polishing. Probably will just get a freshen up, and maybe a regrind or 4.4 internals. Either way i hope the bonnet clearance is sufficient to run that manifold adaptor and the two side draught webbers i already have. Have also seen someone running a GM HEI dizzy, ive got a dizy with points but no cap, havent attempted to find one not sure how hard it might be. Ive got a parts catalogue on the way (i have two H252 Presidents which are Y44E) so might be able to find a few parts with the connections i have at nissan. Other than that i will have no problem making up exhaust manifolds or any other flanges etc as i have all the machinery on hand (CNC plasma etc.), Carby's will be easy, fuel pump is there. Like i said i have a spare Y44E in the donor president although being injected only so many parts are going to work. I do need to find a balancer and work out the manual conversion. I dont have a spare box for this (only on the donor president) and wasnt really intending to part the box as i wanted it as a spare for the complete president. But from what i can find out the L series box bolts onto the auto bell housing. Any other info you could help with would be awesome, i did notice you had a gasket set at one point, where did you source that?

Eitherway i have both haha fun fact i have in my collection right now: 2x E15ET, 2x RB20DET, RB25DET, 2x RB30E, RB30ET, Y40, VH41DE, 2x Y44, 2x VH45DE Want to run the manifold sitting on it with the two webbers yummmm

just going to use the 25 head i have. My brother is using 26 head on his hence the reason i have the manifolds. Although i keep looking at this damn VH41 to put in the Z

or buy my 308, comes with tailshaft and gearbox all ready to bolt into a Z

the socket on the battery is ghetto as hahaha, but why is hooking a couple of clamps to the battery harder for charging?

One co-worker who was with nissan for 30 years and her husband was a datsun race team mechanic. hardly any difference between 16's and 18's on my infiniti, or between 15's and 17's on our work cars. Maybe you lot are just too old and frail + with lower profile tyres the idea is to run greater pressures so you have a lower chance of bashing rim

went out there today, saw lots of Z's couldnt really find any owners though

hahah yeah i love the shed Some more work this arvo: the car is completely stripped down now, the only stuff left on it is the crossmember/struts and rear subframe/struts + wheels to roll it around now going to finish packing away all the stuff so i can put it back in its 'bay' and start prepping the car further. oh and because i change my mind every day, the latest engine incarnation is RB30DETT. I have everything i need.....

Taken from my intro thread: 8/3/11 Car is a 260z 2+2 1975 The car itself only has some rust in the front cross member, the rest of the body is straight. seems to be no rust in the floors or theres some bog on the car but havent played with that yet. It has a brand new bonnet and flutes, new panel under the windscreen. The engine is a holden 5lt V8 with aussie 4 speed that has a few goodies, 2x 45 webers, edelbrock manifold, oil cooler etc. My dad bought this car a few years ago but never got a chance to do anything with it. I have just purchased it from him and plan to do somthing! To start off with will sort out the body and get some paint on it, then start fidling with the rest to get it running. decided the 308 will go, i have a rb30e bottom end, and a complete rb25det. Could be looking at an RB30D w/ triple webers. few pics from when it was bought home: 9/3/11 got a few pics of it before, slid it around on the dolley jacks and now ill be able to work on it. Dummy fit up the front lip from my brothers Z (which he is on here too acdc-5, he has a black,caged, track spec 260z 2seater in the build) also the flares. i think he has a spare of the front lip so ill be using one, although i wont have the diffuser and the canards like this one does 18/3/11 Some more work tonight: Pulled off the guards, bonnet, hatch, hung them up out of the way Started to pull the engine out all out.. took like 15mins hahah Looking at the engine more and more and theres all sorts of bits on it, has pushrod guides on it, Exhaust sensors, big oil pump/filter/cooler, edelbrock torquer manifold, havent pulled the cam out but i'd be betting its aftermarket. Heres a pic of the RB30e which has no head, bottom end is supposed to be all good. Also RB25DET which needs rings, so plan is to put the two together at least. The figure out how im going to do fuel (can see the VH41 and my brothers Z here too )

thanks for the welcome guys agno, didnt get anything else done, i got sidetracked and took the pulsar for a spin after moving it to get the Z out haha the car isnt engineered with the V8, it was interstate anyway, nor do i think the previous owner ever had it running. i think i might hold onto the v8 for now, it does look pretty weird in their hey hahaha got a few pics of it before, slid it around on the dolley jacks and now ill be able to work on it.
