  2. Cheers Ben, So just looking for the gearbox and pedals.... R.
  3. Thanks guys .... yeah saw the pedals in Rev's pile - he convinced me that I really need to convert my car over while the engine is out. Kicking myself for not grabbing the pedals now ... R.
  4. Hi y'all, Looking for the remaining parts for a 5 speed conversion for my 260z.... - HAVE FOUND a decent manual box incl. bell housing. - STILL LOOKING FOR brake and clutch pedals I have the pressure plate and clutch already.... Prefer in Victoria.... Cheers, R.
  5. Hey Rev, Thanks Rev for being so welcoming to a new member and fixing me up with parts on Saturday. Good luck with the sale of the car (and the house if that happens) ... and let us know what the name of your charity is so I (and maybe some others??) can show my appreciation by donating some money to them. Still pondering the automatic to manual conversion ... but I think I might be needing your advice soon... Cheers, AussieZed

  7. Hey folks, I will post the details for the wheels over the weekend but they are 14's and 5.5 wide .... so the 'guard fillers' amongst you are likely not to be too keen!! Ross
  8. Hey all, I am in Upper Ferntree Gully for inspection. No more parts are in the pipeline except a set of old school mesh mags which I will post with details next week. I will put pics of the windows up tonight. Ross
  9. Hi folks, I have a number of items available from my 260z 2+2 .... (all parts are used) Door glass L. Untinted. Some surface rust on the bracket but the glass is unscratched. $40. Door glass R. There are tyres on the rims but they will need to be replaced. $40 the set. 4x mag wheels (see photo in later post). 14 x 5.5. Backspace is just a little large for a 260Z, should be ok with a small spacer or coilovers. $100 Bonnet (unvented). Solid, although there is some evidence of rust repairs at the front edge. The front of the bonnet has been scraped (driven under something??), but the metal appears to be undented (see pic). $40. Rear louvre with attachments. In good condition although a little faded. $50. Welcome to inspect (in Ferntree Gully in Melbourne). Cheers, Ross
  10. Hey mate, Is that actually the motor that I sold you?? Gee you work fast. If it is that motor, legend has it that it came out of a 'very special' LHD 280z 2 seater imported by a US serviceman at Pine Gap, so it's found it's way to a very appropriate home.... .... and man do I LOVE the look of the motor .... I'm suffering serious carburettor-envy ... I'm going out to my car to stare grumpily at my SU's. R.
  11. LOL Salty ... I like that ... I suspect that is what most people would think.... I'm paid to teach people how to do stuff and I STILL complain about them being underfoot. No sign of crows feet on my factory paint but I am swaying more and more towards just ripping it all off ... my hatch, doors and bonnet need stripping back anyway .... after that's done the roof and back quards just won't look like that much more.... R.
  12. Howdy, Thanks for the advice all ... too bad you're not in Melbourne drifta1600 .... there's two jobs I am afraid of stuffing up ... painting the Z and refinishing our timber floors!! I am keen to learn about how to paint but I don't want to practise on the car I always promised myself (the Z obviously), and it seems like the investment in a gun and a worthwhile compressor would be a bit silly for one car. Are there any painters in the club? Would be more than happy to pay the going rate if they were willing to have me hovering around in the background helping out and generally getting in the way. Message me if anyone is keen and capable ... Ross
  13. Great info!! Thanks a lot. AussieZed
  14. Hi folks, I have a query about parts that have been in primer for some time. I have bought a bonnet and some doors that have been stripped back and primed for who knows how long. I hear these stories about primer sucking up water and messing up later paint jobs - is that true? Do I have to go back to steel?? A second question that I am sure I know the answer to - but anyway. The factory paint on the roof and rear quarters of my car is pretty much immaculate. You do hear of people painting over factory paint, but I would guess it isn't advisable .... advice?? While I'm on the topic ... any recommendations for a panel beater/painter in the east or south east of Melbourne?? Cheers, AussieZed
  15. Hey Bryan I assume it's still there ... was a couple of weeks ago that I saw it. They are a self serve place and I have rung them before about whether they have a vehicle on the yard and they have had no clue. Best to just go down and have a look yourself. I would drop in myself to check for you (I work just around the corner), but I am working in Brisbane tomorrow. The car is about half way along the Nissan row, just before three 300zx's. Good luck!! Cheers, AussieZed
  16. Hands off Peter... lol.... it's mine!!
  17. Hey mate, I had a TA22 and sold it to get my 260z. In my opinion for the TA22s it's a bit like the 260z 2+2s, they're never going to be worth as much as their more desirable siblings (the 'mustang' RA22 for the TA22 and the 2 seater Zeds). The RA22s are pretty good buying at the moment IF YOU CAN FIND ONE ... a couple of really nice ones have gone for $5-6K in Melbourne lately ... a similar condition Zed would be about $10K. It depends on what you are looking for ... if you just want a nice practical car for day to day use then I know of at least two tidy, road-worthy 260Z 2+2 for around the $6K mark. A good restored one goes for around $12-15K. A two seater maybe $5-10K more. Of course it's more fun to buy something cheaper and then restore it... Having owned Z's before I don't actually think the running costs are too bad ... they are a bit thirsty on gas, but you make that back by having a car which is pretty easy to work on yourself. My only recommendation is to park it under cover ... no point in ENCOURAGING the rust monster. Lets see who yells at me about my estimated prices ... they're based on my two years of shopping for a Z.... AussieZed

  19. Hey folks, For those that are interested I spotted a 280z with an intact L28 injected engine at Imlach Wreckers on Centre Road in Clayton Vic. No idea of the condition or price but might be worth a look. AussieZed
  20. I should mention that I also already own one of my dream 'toys'... 1998 Isuzu Vehicross ... the sexiest SUV ever built!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu_VehiCROSS
  21. SOLD to Gareth.
  22. Hi folks, For sale is an L28 'Nismo' engine. Rumoured to have come from a low k's 280ZX that ran into a 'roo in Coober Pedy. I bought it to swap into my 260Z but have decided to go with a built up L26 motor instead for a range of reasons. I know nothing about this block except that it has been stored undercover and right side up with oil in it... It is a bare block ONLY ... no inlet manifold, carbies, alternator or anything else attached. For pick up from the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. I have an engine lifter to lift it into a trailer or ute. I am looking for offers around $200 ... but it's hard to work out what this is worth ... if you think I am being unrealistic, make me an offer. Cheers, AussieZed
  23. I was sitting in traffic this morning with a Lotus Elise in front of me, a 350Z on one side and a 370Z on the other... and I got to thinking.... If you didn't have a Z car what would you own it its place?? For me it's a Ford Capri Brookland 2.8i - beautiful shape, sweet leather interior, fun to drive ... typical of Ford to get the Capri concept right and then stop making the damn things. Second place to a RA22 Toyota Celica.
  24. Thanks for everyone's help.
  25. I owned a fire-engine red 1977 Fairlady (260Z shape with L20A EFI motor) in New Zealand seven years ago. Looks like a 260Z but doesn't actually have that written on the car anywhere - all the badging was Fairlady. It was a sweet little car - revved freely and matched the performance of my 280Z (which was a lot heavier - and a piece of S$#T for the record). There are also Fairlady '280Zs' with the L20A EFI motor in the 280Z body. I owned one of those at one point too, but it was a horrible under-powered thing, and I ended up swapping an L28 into it. Funnily enough my Fairlady had been imported from Japan to Australia in the early 1990's and apparently had turned out for a number of track days in Melbourne (the previous owner had pics). Don't know if anyone in the club remembers it? It was then exported to NZ in the mid 1990s. I sold it in 2003 when I moved to Canada, and it is now under restoration in Dunedin NZ.
