Good Morning, Installed an original zed clock with quartz movement but rather than the battery that most use it has a little motor that runs off the DC supply just like the original clock uses. One week on and it is keeping time perfectly, looks perfect and sounds close to the original motor sound but no loud ticking when the car isn't running just the buzz of the motor. Found azaria a while ago on ebay and have been watching his stuff for a while. He's a decent bloke and agreed to me discussing his stuff on the forum. Looks like he's got another one ready to go: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-Clock-w-QUARTZ-Movement-70-73-OEM_W0QQitemZ230356063866QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item35a24a967a&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1171 In addition, he's been working on a full resto of a 280ZX ignition system for me. He was happy to help with things he didn't have in stock but had to be patient with his turn around time and checking parts availability. So far he's exceeded all of his promises. I think he specialises in Datsun electrics. Feel free to tell him where you heard about him if you like - my username on ebay is ek61special. PS - hope it okay to post an ebay link here but since it about bits thought it the best spot. PPS - I don't work for or know azaria nor do I know anything about a dingo and my name is not lee.

This was the best guide I've found... http://www.practicalclassics.co.uk/buyingguide.php?page=1&sid=540 Found it exceptionally good as I was uninitiated at the time of buying this zed and got a gem as a result of having this handy. Would love to hear what the combined knowledge here thinks of it. Good work on yours but it is beyond what I could've comprehended or applied when inspecting a car the first time. Great resource for the second, third, fourth.... and zedth zed! Thanks Gav - great work!

All true but fails to explain things like the 71 hemi 'cuda convertibles - couldn't give them away because they were the last hurrah for a passing era suffering from representing all that was cool last year and we all know there is nothing so un-cool as last year's coolest and yet they are now the ultimate of the era (debatable of course). Any tips on the next white elephant? Locky, you suggest GTRs but surely (especially here) R32 GTRs are the future classic with the 33 and 34s bing nothing more than a sideshow... Although I'm not sure that applies to 240s vs the later zeds.

Ah, half way through the resto - didn't make it half way through the concrete wall but it was scary enough. Thanks.

Anyone used the taxi service? An experience would be cool. My options have changed... now down to the 240Z and a flash-as R34 GT-T coupe... the mustang came to greif on captain cook bridge and is about 1/2 way through the concrete wall motivated restoration. Still no requests for a lift from sydney airport and surely someone has needed a lift to or from there???

Understood, They are normally available for a couple of weeks air freight if you can spring the hefty 16 bucks or in a couple of months as normal mail at about 9 dollars.

G'day, Have been enjoying my new daily driver an R34 GT-T with an auto, mild mods and 60k on the clock. Love the view over the dash and how much it reminds me of my 240. After a week commuting in the 34 I'm back in the zed this morning to my terror! I had forgotten how intimidating modern traffic is in the zed... despite being disconnected and uninvolved in the R34 it makes me wonder if the modern nissans will be as well loved as our vintage classics. What do you think it takes to make a classic? Is it the emotional involvement that Leno bangs on about?

Sorry to hear of your trauma mate. The next step will be finding a shop that is willing to do restoration work. Don't worry too much as Shannons should understand it costs more for classics but you can't stop there either. If you want it to be something you are happy to continue with it needs to be a shop that is not only willing but HAPPY and ABLE to work on your car - and that without fillling the dents with plastic filler and sanding it off. Perseverance is required. Maybe try shops that sponsor classic car clubs (not just zeds). Further to the rants on injustice, my father has been visiting the Bugatti Mueseum in Mulhouse France and tells of the most spectacular cars as far as he can see but that it was at threat of destruction by the owners' (the brothers Schlumpf) textile empire employees who were on strike in protest over the abuse of power and wealth (quite rightly so) that resulted in the collection. The strife escalated to storming the converted textile mill that housed the collection but after breaking a couple of windows and a small fire sense and awe prevailed with the collection becoming a public mueseum after much wrangling. Just goes to show that sense and appreciation can prevail - even among a mob of frenchmen!

I'm amazed at the high fuel consumption - what sort of performance are your engines giving? I've just got a bog standard 240 and thought there was something wrong when it was using the same 13L/100ks as my '68 289 HiPo V8 does in the 200kg heavier mustang. Add to that the performance is pedestrian at 9sec to 60 in the datsun while the mustang will do it in 6 seconds for little more than those 13L. These results make me wonder if the things I had in mind to fix the problem (head port/polish, exhaust, electronic distributer, tune-up) won't make it worse? Still, petrol is very cheap and such great fun to burn!

WOW! Reckon my zed might be able to match your output at idle around 5k!

I've only had my zed for a little while but found the screens leaked badly so had planned on getting them fixed by Alan Locke in Miranda (a champion at making things designed to leak - like mustangs and zeds actually seal) but got a stone chip so accelerated the deal. Got the freebie from shannons and Alan was able to supply one without the black ceramic surround. The old one had this on it and the change was immense. The cabin is so much lighter and there is a huge improvement to visibility - would strongly recommend getting one without the black ceramic surround.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I've forsaken Gladstone for Coogee Beach in Sydney. It is about 20mins from airport and halfway to the city so should be no hassle if I'm available.
-
Why not! count me in... 68 GT/CS California Special Mustang (HiPo 289 in case you're in a hurry) 71 240Z (nice paint & original interior but we're still missing some ponies from the factory) PS s_sushi: I was born in Gladstone!... Having said that, like God, I also have forsaken it.

New Silver 240z with wire wheels!

I parted with 19thousand which still feels like too much for the amount of car. That said, it is cheap for the amount of fun I'm having. Also, has anyone else noticed that 240ies are listed at 24.5k in the 2009 unique cars price guide!? Just saw it this morning and was shocked to see it. That is condition one but still, their definition of condition one is far below concourse and probably about the very good most auction houses use. Anyone going to the Shannons Sydney Auction tonight? I'm thinking about it - that stage one buick would be exciting! -
Hi all, Just recently bought my first zed - a silver 240 that is fresh off a nice new paint job and mechanical freshen up. Still needs some more attention mechanically as the previous owner wanted to store the car rather than use it. I'd like to thank everyone that has contributed to the site as it was invaluable to me in preparing to find the right car to buy. A special thanks to the poster of the link to practical classics guide to buying a 240z. It really confirmed for me that the car was a beaut. Also, not sure if this is "on-topic" but I'm looking for a recommendation for a mechanical shop in Sydney that either specialises in Datsuns or has good reports working with zeds - brakes, engine tuning, exhaust etc. Particularly in the eastern suburbs of Sydney or in Sutherland (where I work). I've been to Stewart Wilkins but it is just too far to go to Windsor for routine mechanical work. Regards, Scott
