Some have suggested I use an angle grinder, some have suggested a plasma welder or even a jig cutter.. some of it seems overkill. Basically, somewhere down the track of my Z's history, they omega-glued the fenders down on it. They will not come off and need to be cut off, which is alright, considering I decided to buy new ones from allzparts (still waiting for an email back from them). So to get to the point, which tool would you recommend for cutting them off? Seemed like a good idea to ask here, since I could also use that same tool to cut out rusty sections of the car.

Ignore them all I reckon! But sometimes even I find it hard to ignore the "Why did you spend so much money on a bomb" ARGH IT'S NOT A BOMB YOU IGNORANT _____ (insert random appropriate word); nothing gets my blood boiling faster. In any case, great work Mike! Keep it up and soon those fools who doubt your actions will be drooling from the corner of their mouths over wanting your car.

There can only be one.

The latest in Double-0 technology; Aqua-Z! James Bond would be proud.

Indeed that does sound like a good option! But after a 10th look and a few measurements, it appears I won't even be able to fit the battery in the front anyway with a VH41DE in there.. so I guess in the back it'll be going haha, that may be better for weight distribution anyway.

Carbon and fibreglass parts from Japan for various Datsuns
Robstar replied to BenZed's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
I'm interested in the doors, but I can't seem to choose between fibreglass or carbon. Opinion warrented Ben. -
This is the current look of mine, it appears to be tin pop riveted over a bad area. Cut it out and redo the entire area? Also, it seems I'm missing a battery bracket.. anyone got a spare for sale haha.

Yo! Just a small request, could perhaps a few of you post pictures of the battery tray area in your engine bay? A bit of an odd request, but it serves a purpose ultimately on my side haha (picture reference).

Could you put this motor in a 240z?? what you think
Robstar replied to mrp69's topic in General Discussions
Woah, 28.5k.. This engine was definately made for some crazy ass sidewinder. -
Your mum. Ooeeerrrrrrrrr

Don't be too shocked to find certain aspects of restoring a Z more expensive than you had planned. If you're lucky enough to find a 240/260/280 without some severe rust problems, then at the very least you can channel most of your funds into suspension & engine work. Ultimately, if I was to add my two cents.. Be patient, be smart about it and give it your all or nothing. Everything else can be answered when you get to that stage.

Basically, it's too much for me to handle, fixing the 260z body. I've given it my best shot over the past few months and I've decided to get a professional in on it. Is there any Perth locals here that could perhaps recommend a workshop that you reckon could do a good job with my 260's body? If so, please share the name or number and I'll start calling and getting some quotes. - Rob

Double skin section? If the original design had two layers of sheet metal, could this be what I'm ripping off! Hahaha x_x

Thanks for the help guys! Zeddophile, you've really made a few good points, but I won't lose inspiration, I knew it wasn't going to be an easy project or short heh, but that's what makes it all that much better in the end. I have to go out and buy a wire brush for the pneumatic drill, so for now I've actually chiselled a little at the side and found bog or something covering the entire sill underneath and the front guards are absolutely not salvageable. Pics: Should I just rip it all off completely? Seems like the right way to go about it.

Oh my fucking god. I'm stumped, I absolutely don't know what to say.. except I'm incredibly frustrated and worried that if I put a grinder of some sort to the car in the area of where the parting is supposed to be between panels, that I will screw something up. >_>; Thanks for posting the pictures though Hellfire! They confirm with me that I'm not out of mind and there should be parting haha.

Yea, I came to that conclusion in the end.. it's pretty bad, but thankfully it's on an area of the car that could be easily be repaired. I have a pretty important conversation concerning the front panel fenders. They won't come off. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emfw-fNXzbk

Small update Still stripping the car down, quite a few dodgy jobs on the car in the past it seems. Chassis rails seem to be in good nick, floorpan seems to have some spots where it was replaced with fiberglass and tin (wtf), so that's gotta be completely replaced for proper plating. Left door has some serious bad bog job on it, right side A-pillar might have a bit of rust, not sure yet.. Bottom of the hatch tail, has some bad bog job as well.. they've bogged up the rust from the water seeping into the window and down the back of the hatch, but they didn't even bother to grind it down nice and clean, you see it all rough and dry. Some serious bad bogging job behind the right door hinge, just above it under the A-pillar. So far, that's just that.. who knows what else I'll find in this can of worms, but it's all good! It'll all be repaired, replaced, PROPERLY. Question though, how the hell on earth do i get the side quarter panels off? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qL9iu9XJwfw

Hey guys! This might be the last post for a little while, cause I don't want to update every single day with some minimal like "Here is me taking off one wheel" and then the next day "Here is me taking off.. the other wheel! omgz". Honestly, I'm a bit stuck in the direction, I honestly have NO IDEA, what it's like to be in a S30 with an L engine, I'd really love to experience that, because I was thinking.. maybe I shouldn't drop the VH41 in there? Maybe I'd get the same performance.. (obviously not, but I think you can understand what I'm getting at), V8 or L-engine.. I want to get rid of the sunroof, it's as simple as that. I love some cars with some roofs and some people love cars with sunroofs, but it's just not for me..

We had some people look at us angry-like, cause we were going just a tad slower than normal. I didn't feel too confident in the straps I had down, hell budget job. But I just looked back as if to say "What the fuck, don't give me that look! We're pulling a car!" lol, thankfully enough though, everyone stayed as far away as possible from us. We were surprised no cops pulled us over to have a poke. Another video for fun: http://youtube.com/watch?v=SgtFtbQ23YY

Day 1. - Getting the car~ Went over to Paul's place early this morning, but still late, damn traffic. To pick up my not-so-brand-new Datsun 260z! He was off to work once done and I had the pleasure of figuring how to transport it to my house. The carburettor's run rough (sucking more air than fuel?) and there was no battery to speak of! But that matter; my friend and I went back upto my place, grabbed the 4x4 and went to hire a car trailer from the nearest place that we could hire one. The whole experience of having a trailer on the back of your car, that's longer than the car itself is pretty scary if you haven't done it before, let alone one with a car on it.. Haha good times. Now the car was succesfully transported by us to my house, I reversed it nice and slow onto the front lawn. Now I've just gotta clean the shit out of the garage thanks to my brother's party and then I can start work on stripping her down! The sooner, the better. I'm so damn happy haha. With only two weeks to go till I go over and hand over the bling and pick up my 260z, I'm pretty excited and considering all my mates will be coming over to have a few beers with me on the day and see it, for all it's glory! One has to stop and wonder.. Where the hell am I going to begin? What do I even dismantle first! LOL The plan is to strip the beast down straight away, prep it for the VH45 and repair any rust, I even have a professional welder friend from Subaru (.. this almost sounds like I'm boasting..) coming to have a look at the shell's condition. But bleh, take the motor our first? Take the seats? Should I take a picture every step of the way.. Video even? Should I keep all the bolts and nuts labeled and in separate containers.. Oh my, so much to think about, but better prepared than not.

Resistance is futile.

You could always go the VH route, get a half-cut for around 1-1.5k.

If I really had to add my two cents, I don't think I could. A 4-banger vs Straight-6? It's not really fair after a certain amount of 'tuning'. Go for the RB26DETT.
