  1. The wife (being an accountant) often used to ask me where all the money was going that I used to withdraw from the account. She never knew the od mods being made to my Zed of 13 years. Then she found my stash of cash (couple of grand) and went crazy! Do! Had to promise never again. Now much to her disapproval I just spend what ever I want. I used to go cheap on stuff trying to save a few bucks for the Miss's sake. But usually found a few years later I was spending twice as much again redoing it properly. Damn got sick of that. :x But rule number one if you ain't got it don't spend it for all you young folk out there thinking a loan might be the go. Remember every time you think this will be the last big fix or mod, I can tell you it won't be.
  2. Welcome to the Zed Club. Nice story. Hope you get time to work on the car with two little ones in toe. Sounds like a big project which might cost a few bucks. Goods luck.
  3. Yeah that white car looks great. I got there late and parked up the back for an hour or two. Mine was the red Zed with the G-nose. I also was a little dissappointed. Only half the cars compared to the year before and the quality was down. It's a shame plenty of the Zed owners with great cars couldn't get down there.
  4. Congrats Vlad, Now the fun can begin. Make sure you enjoy your car at the same time as making your improvements. Don't take it off the road for too long as I have seen some peoples enthusiasm die if they can't take it for a spin every now and then. Power steering is on my list as well.
  5. Sorry mine was done over 10 years ago by my brother so I don't have any up to date details.
  6. I will probably drop in around 10-11 for a look. But not entering since their judging is inconsistant and the score sheets focus on the wrong things. But that's just a personal opinion.
  7. Thanks. I am in Melbourne as well. Langwarren is a bit of a drive. But if you end up going to a NDSOC event like the concourse coming up 3/12/06 or next years Nationals then I am sure we will bump into each other. It's always great to check out what other people have done. Especially on the V8 Zeds. There aint that many of them around. Cheers
  8. The next nationals is at Phillip Island next Easter. But I think the NDSOC is having a Concours at Como Park in South Yarra in the next month or so. Check the site. Cheers
  9. Vlad, I am the first to agree with you that the old Zeds can be modernised and if you saw my car you would no what I am talking about. I suppose all I was trying to say was don't take anyone's word for the condition of your new car. Wait till you get it and drive it for 2 months before really knowing it's condition and what might need doing. They are old cars and I can guarantee you will always have you hand in your pocket fixing or should I say improving the car. 2K might fix or improve 10 things meaning that Aircon might be a lower priority after driving it for a while. Just a bit of a heads up from what I have seen or experianced. Enjoy the car because they are great even if a little hot in the summer. Ha.
  10. Welcome to the car world. If you want Aircon in your car I am tipping it will cost you over a grand to get it put in. I recommend you try the car without it for a while. But if you want all the modern stuff on an old car that doesn't already have aircon then I suspect you will be out of pocket more than a couple of hundred dollars. If you are buying the car drive it for a while before booking the Aircon because you might find cash needs to be spent on other areas before the luxuries are required. Just some advise from one who has seen a bit in his past. Good luck.
  11. Ha the membership is only $45- at the moment for the remainder of the year. Unfortunately it's gone a little down hill these days. I was talking about it with my brother and we were saying how we should try and lift this club / site to the next level and get it financial (all be it in a small way). But it seems most people are happy to stay on line and congrigate at various NDSOC events. It would be interesting if we did see how many Vic members were keen on meeting up on say a quarterly basis. Anyway just a thought. Cheers
  12. Yeah my engine has alloy heads so it's not that heavy! Well sort of. I agree I think it's more the tyres plus the angle of the rack on the Zed that makes it a bit heavy. Gordons fingers are doing pretty well. One he has no feeling in, but at least both are back on and pink so he won't lose them now. That point has passed. They aren't perfect but it could have been worse. the main thing is he can still race his car and work with minimal inconvenience. Thanks for the site Nato. I will have a look later today. Just what I was after by the sounds. Cheers
  13. Yeah thanks Lambs. I actually have a V8 in my 2+2 so it's a bit heavier than usual plus want to put 255 tyres on the front instead of the current 235's. The sterring is a bit heavy but I just want it to be like a normal modern car (light). I am working on making it as user friendly as possible, so an old grandma or my kids can drive it with ease when they reach the ripe old age. Or maybe when I am an old fart, ha. Sounds like the WRX rack is the way to go. Not sure where to start the search for that. Probably the wreckers.

    Harness Fitment

I was also going to suggest mounting it to the floor. Mine is currently fixed to a metal bracket that is bolted to the topt rear strut tower. something can easily be welded up to fit there. Not sure if it is legal but I have passed plenty of scruteneering and done many sprints with it fitted here. I have an 8 point roll cage in my car but never got around to welding a mounting bracket to it. I guess I should add it to the list. State Racing would be a different kettle of fish.
  15. As we all know the old steering on the Zed is a little heavy. As the next project I am planning on putting some power sterring on my car in the next 3-6 months and was wondering if anyone has done it or knows of anyone. I was hoping to get some details to give me a heads up. I have heard of a few done and seen Class's Car in Sydney is done. I think he used a Subaru rack but hear that the WRX steering rack is probably better. I was just wondering if there were any pit falls to look out for. thanks
  16. Very nice centre peice. Are you guys going to take your pride and joy's along to the NDSOC concourse at Como Park 3/12/06?

  18. Just as a heads up the first rule is don't trust any mechanic. Beleive me I have been around and found 90% reckon they know everything yet know nothing. (took me 15 years to realise this because they all sound so genuine and beleive in what they say) It would appear this guy who "tuned" or changed over your carby's might have taken you for a ride. I would be getting him to fix the problem that he created. But by the same token I would continue along the path of seeking advise from fellow Zed owners who are in the know and try to make an informed judgement yourself. Unfortunately there are too many mechanices out there who do not understand what the owner wants a reliable driver with additional power, all be it minimal being a secondary option. Good luck.
  19. Man that's a few cars you have. I'm surprised you still have the orange car yet turn the other ones over. I like to keep it simple and concentrate on one. I finally got those elctric windows done . Came up really well as did the rest of the car. Let's hope we see you back down in Tassie again soon. It's going to be huge again this year. Cheers
  20. G'day Dale, On another note are you going to be able to get a car together for the Taissie 2007 trip?
  21. Generally Vigil are cheaper than Shannons. I was not happy with Shannons when I approached them a few months back. They wouldn't even see me because I had "a few" speeding fines" but no accidents in 20 years, over 40 years of age, member of Cams and NDSOC for over 10 years. Sort of makes a mockery of all their ads. Was not impressed that they wouldn't even talk to me. Anyway I found someone cheaper and better to suit my needs.
  22. I have been using Warren for over 10 years for parts replacement only and always found him honest and reliable. He hasn't been well of late but I hear he will be back on board soon.
  23. Unless the wheels or tyres exceed or stick out further than the body of your car there is nothing illegal with them. They can be any size. In fact I am getting 19" rims to replace my 17's in the next 6 months. As long as they are under my guards the police won't have a problem. I dare say the police were pulling the cars over for any reason like they do. And then just trying to find anything to give them a yellow sticker. As we know if they want to pin you for something they look until they find it.
  24. G'day Guys, I was reading this thread and was surprised that you are talking about Cops giving you an unroad worthy for larger wheels. I have never heard of this before. For insurance purposes maybe but not legally. I have 17x9" on my can and have been pulled of in the car about 6 times and never has one of them ever mentioned anything about wheels being to big. Never gotten a canery but one prick tried to pin me on the tyres missing a bit of rubber, but he didn't push it. Even with the V8 in it they just ask me if I have an engineers certificate for it which I do. I tell them so and they leave it at that. Not sure if they can check it when calling though the rego. You might even get away with it with another 6 in it. But the guy was right if you can't afford an engineers certificate you really can't afford an engine plant replacement if it is going to be done properly. I say go for the bigger wheels and shouldn't have any problems. Cheers
  25. Well ZDream, You sure had one when you started working on this car. It looks fantastic. A lot of work, time, money and effort has gone into this. Something I can appreciate and love to see some of the original mods to the Zeds. I am impressed with the power plant have you taken it out on the track yet. Or is it going to be more of a cruiser. I hope to see it in the flesh one day. Maybe come down to Vic for the annual Tassie trip in Feb'07 or the Easter Nationals. I am sure you will attract plenty of attention.
