  1. hi I used bit of a mix on mine. paint stripper and sand blaster to get rid of the paint and rust. mine wasnt as bad so most of it was just pin holes which i welded all up and if larger section i replaced it with new sheet of metal. protected it from the inside with fish oil (spray can stuff) on the outside i used etch primer (either spies hecker or protec both are good and not to harsh on the pockets) but helps to know the guys as well to get trade prices. since my previous experiences in crash industry i got contacts pretty much accross adelaide. than after that i used fine body filler protec brand work realy well for small imperfections. though i didnt use much of the normal filler as i got the panels in relatively straight so the fine was doing realy good i used bit of the normal one as the previous owner deleted the rear bar and had 10kg of body filler on it so i got rid of it and returned it back to normal. had few spots that werent as easily accessable from the inside to push out perfectly but only small amounts. also bit around the sunroof area. as for chemicals i wouldnt use the if it has surface rust sand blast or sandi it down with fine sanpaper ie 180 and above than use steel wool to kinda polish the panel. one one spot i used the redexx rust converter and kinda reacted with the primers. so not a good idea unless u doing under neath the car and going to put the body shuts underneath. seem to be ok with that. last i used 2pk primer filler to get the scratches and pin holes out. all my gear came from mob called crash supplies in adelaide not sure if they have those guys in other states but im sure theres similar places the brand the sell mostly is dupont paint and spies hecker. lot of crash supplies use these products. have fun
  2. lol if u got that for $1200 u did damn well. it looks good just keep a close look at those reapearing rust bubles and treat them asap. if paint is good elsewhere than u shouldnt have problems matching the colour since its still fresh. probably be good to do it now if u can to stop it from spreading. when i think about it mine was a bucket with multiple colours and shagged interior and motor for 600. ill pay the 1200 for that one as well. i ended up getting a 240z as well last week so my hunt is also over.but i got more problems with mine.mine doesnt run and it has 2 yellow stickers on the windscreen lol. now i got to get my workshop cleaned and sorted out and bring my 260z 2+2 in and start putting things back into it. the fun part. cant wait ot hit the road with it. anyway good luck let me know how much they slug u for the rear hatch rubber for the glass. im after one as well. after the easter break i have to visit rare spares last quote i got from them was $149 for the rear rubber.
  3. i assumed u got that 2+2? post some pics when u can be interesting to see what u got u happy with it im happy for ya.
  4.         yeah 0 must have got jammed on kb i think he didnt have any interest for 5k so i got pissed off and wacked 20k cause he doesnt want to sell it so if someone buys for 20k he sell it . wierd theory also could have sold it but y didnt he just cancel the damn thing. let me know what was the reply to theat msg im sure he would have gone nuts. i piked up hes fairy short tamperd bloke.
  5. heheh yeah well it was bit of a pain in the butt. but i hated that cheap arse pop top sunroof so it had to go.since the hole was there allreadyi didnt think twice about it. i got a 240z with sunroof as well pop top. but his one is pretty good though. no leaks and underneath looks very factory like..similar to the ones in exas and 180sx. as for metal ones. only car that may fit in 240 is out of the 1986- 1989 toyota celica the model before the wide body round celice. st186 or something like that. they have fairly small sunroof its electric and its metal and fairly similar roof line to 240z. but all depends how far the the undercarriege of the sunroof goes to and if it will fit the 240. other cars to look at is prob old audi merc or volvo that have metal sunroofs.
  6. yeah what part was it sump bolt or some washer? i couldnt get 6 yrs ago a ford capri convertible 94 model front 1/4 glass.the car was only 6 yrs old. when i found the glass (which took 5months) the car was sold straight away. ive also asked for some eb parts and not longer available and it was a center console vent. i love fords but they spare parts suck. and someone also mention that some AU parts hard to find what tha thats car is previous model to the current shape. still think nissan has best spare parts inventory and availability of any other manufacturer.and they also support import and overseas models. i wonder if u can get some parts for the old mustang or thunderbird or even the new models from local ford.or corvette from holdens. Nissan mate simply the best
  7. mines 2/72 and it didi seem wierd having the vent on the hatch. then again not minding them anyway i rang my guys at nissan to ask for the grills that go on top of the holes and yes u can get them for $40 each. than i asked them how come does 72 model have should be only up to 71. they replied that their listing for this part ends till 3/73.so what tha?? y did some come with that and some dont? was it a factory option or something. it still has side vent by the way. i thought maybe in its youngerdays was smacked and tailgate replaced with older model but dont think its the case no evidence of rear damage at all on the car. by the way u guys would be suprised what still available for the 240z from ur nissan bonnet brand new $570 that aint bad for a car that over 36 yrs old and still have parts for it. got to love the nissans  i have ordered heap of stuff for my 240z ,badges, mirrors (still availavble both sides but are pricey),new service manual for the 240z,and few other bits and pieces. pricing well some parts come close what sh ebay items go. but these are brand new and worth the xtra $10 to $20 i wonder if holden or ford have genuine parts for their 36yr olds. u be lucky to find parts for the 15yr olds.
  8. yeah i just found out. far out.what they grow and eat down there lol? i talked to him but. bla bla bla. got pics and more pics and she looked bit rusty. bit $$$ for just plates. so i didnt bother anymore i just checked ebay and 20k and im like cool i just bought one for 1800 and not that rusty its not 70 and not no 60 but hey she is pretty much rust proof in all major parts expecialy rear no rust on 1/4 panels or hatch and roof. all wicked. but she still needs lot of work . im happy for 3200 i can get mine in new condition(well labour i dont pay) i dont care if not 60 mines 1860 one day they fetch up there. not worried at all. oh well good luck to him
  9. What they dont have spring steel in old cars. ok fair enough. so what is it just plain steel? its not spring as in spring its but it does absorb impact better, crumbles that is. but its a bitch to get straight again. got to dig up on that. cause with new cars u have to replace with genuine item if possible if not u have to use same material for chasis rails. if fails i just use the 260z rail that i got on the parts car. its rust free pretty much up to the point i need. cant wait to bring the beast home. lol
  10. well i ended up getting it for 1.8k. i think its ok deal. real prob is getting that rail fixed or changed and getting the defect off. which i dont think would be too much of a problem. otherwise tha car is pretty much rust free. also it has vented rear hatch. rang nissan today apperently some particular models had vented rear hatches till july '73. this one has them but some moran tought he fill it up with bog. probably the reason it hasnt rusted at all lol. anyone know the reason for the vented hatch. i guess it had that option cause of the side badge blocking the other vent hole. im just guessing here. and y did some model have and some didnt. as for some debate prior about mirrors 240z came with fender mirrors when they were new and still available from nissan. or maybe that was on different forum. well my hunt for 240z has ended. cant wait to get it running now lol geez i havent even picked it up yet and i want it runing. lol smartass as for costing ill do it myself so i should save afair bit it will only cost me in bit of mig welder gas and wire and material for new chasis rail. im getting one made up out of spring steel same material they originaly made it. u sed to work in crash industry few years back and have replaced few chasis rails. i just need a rotiserie to make my job lot easier.
  11. i found a 72 240z pretty good rear no rust at all. icluding hatch is in good cond. i never seen a 240z with no rust on the beaver panel.(that hasnt been replaced). lhs chasis need repair bit of rust and clean up of previous repair. floor is very good. has few small dents but nothing mayor. comes with l24 but not matching. but apperently can get the matching engine.but its stuffed. has damage on the bonnet and small rust areas on the seals.interior wise seats are shagged door trims ok rear plastic in the boot has few cracks otherwise good. dash cracked as well.and has a sunroof. 1.8k ok price? let me know asap if u guys think its ok dont have much time on it. cheers

Looks sad doesnt it well for $500 cant complain was pretty much rust free and fairly straight. interior what iterior i think he had a husky sleepin in there. very sad state. but who cares it all getting redone. dont know which moron thought that painting the headlight cones mat black looked good. the roof wwas half striped hence the colour change. the previous owner wanted to "restore it" but gave up after few brush strokes with the wire brush.bonnet was replaced as well as other parts from the spare car

complete wiring from the half cut of a doner r32 was used. the old z is somewhere hiding in dump boxes now. complete engine and all accesories were fitted prior to the paint and then all removed. so all extra brackets added and extra holes or nuts were welded in for that factory look.also all unecessary old stuff was deleted. also master cylinder and booster is r32 item as well as clutch master cylinder.. fuse box and relay box reside neatly with custom made bracket. also r32 radiator and big intercooler.

    RBZ260 Sunroof

    From the album: RBZ 260

the car came with some crapy sunroof pop with 10kg of silicon around it so it doesn leak. didnt like the pop glass ones so went for a hunt and got my self a 1984 toyota celica/supra electric sunroof all metal. for $60 cant complain.few hrs with grinder and welder got it in.it actualy reinforced the roof cause it has a subframe under the original skin almost act like a roll cage and roof very solid. and yeah it goes in and out very nicely. looks lot better than that glass pop top.

just been painted 1 day old the colour is Ford Falcon Blueprint effect but the colour looks diferent than what the pic shows cause the car is under cover.
  17. here are some pics. hte camera doesnt do justice to actual colour though this is one of the angles. it changes depnding on the light condition. the second one is nite shot under fluro light also spoiler will be painted too jsut havent gone around to it.
  18. ive painted my 260z with ford blueprint effect usual colour on xr falcons not the dark one the lighter one. wasnt sure about it at first but when it got painted it looks good, well i love it but everyone else has their own taste. ill post a pic when i get home but i still think the z look best in white or red. as for mazda colours ask how much for paint its expensive. most a 3 layer paints. the yellow one is close to $250 per liter and we not talking big brand paint.
  19. lol guys nah im not after a finished one wheres the fun in that? i enjoy rebuilding and fixing things in my spare time expecialy car orientated. as for someones comment for body fixing and mech dont need to pay anyone. i got fully equiped workshop with all the tools in it with chasis straightening inbuilt(thanks to my late father) conteplating in adding a spray booth as well somehow cause takes ages to clean it before a respray lol. and yeah i do know how to use them tools too. i used to work in the crash industry few yrs back before changing to electronics. dont mind fixing rust but hate fixing someone elses butchery. once the gallery decides to work ill post somepics of my 260z with rb20det and lot of other mods such as power steering front suspension and brakes and rear disk setup with cv shafts instead of the unis. all work done by me including the paint job with exception of few items (i dont have lathe for machining hubs). my avatar is only pic of it at the car at the on moment on this site. got one 240 to check out tonight hopefully its better or reasonably priced. cheers
  20. heheh is it? welll sounds like it will work. and i does when to come to think about it. the defected 240z that i went to see first time i didnt spot the bubles and rust but second time i did and that one had same black engine bay. BUT my 260z engine bay is painted black as well nice shiny black metalic but my chasis rails are straight as no rust at all. and wasnt hiding anything. i just painted it neutral so if i ever want to change the colour on the car i dont have to pull the engine out to match it, black goes with most colours even nissan does it factory on their newer cars with darker colours that is. plus it bit harder to see dirt on it .
