  1. By the way I'm guessing she's a 73 model. Anyone care to guess how I know? *Hint looking at the front radiator support area.
  2. I can't help but feel terribly guilty about cutting up a solid shell, I'd rather it get saved. But if others are going to turn it into an organ donor I'm in. Has anyone called to see if it's available still?
  3. Damn it I'm in Melbourne. I'd buy that to just strip it for it's good panels.
  4. Just some links to show that in NZ they put them in anything / everything. Used as a generator here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/business-farming-industry/farming-forestry/irrigation-drainage/other/auction-717859433.htm Holden Berlina: (Best thing that could have happened to it). http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/holden/auction-714168926.htm An LD28 engine for $500. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/nissan/engines/auction-717859908.htm This guy claims he has lots of LD28s http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/ford/engines/auction-716602719.htm Perhaps we should ask him to send over several cranks and split the freight costs?
  5. They go in through the front mate, try some vaseline to lube em' up. That's the problem with a re-skin - tighter fit.
  6. I have the following L24 blocks: L24 078080 - my original block for the 72 240z I have. Currently has an L28 in it (will need to verify number). L24 175807 - from my 73 240z that is now owned by my_mad_z (http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3849 on here).
  7. If you change your mind I'd probably buy the motor for it's crank lol...or convert to veggie power.
  8. Sorry I'm getting confused between Les Collins and Lou Mondello nevermind me.
  9. Lurch on here seems to be in contact with him often enough. Perhaps send him a PM?
  10. The typeface on those ID plates is all wrong, so it won't pass for genuine.
  11. The crank alone is worth $800 - I hope you got a good deal!
  12. Somehow I knew these videos would be useful someday. Not an LD28 but a diesel turbo in a 240z. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-s30-z-discussions/19746-biodiesel-240z.html As for your questions I don't know if a turbo L28 exhaust manifold will bolt up, I believe the head is unique on the LD28 motors. I've seen this motors put in everything, old Holden's, 4x4s and even Z's as you can see above. I would say the weakness will be the weight of the rotating assembly. I often see them listed on trademe.co.nz Perhaps Nzeder on here can help out, he seems to know a bit about them. http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0629/p02s01-usgn.html http://www.pape.ws/allan_and_rosanne/Z-Car_Stuff/VeggieCar/veggiecar.htm http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/open-s30-z-discussions/31826-omg-bio-diesel-z-car.html
  13. Good luck, it helps a lot when someone takes a look for you, especially someone who knows what to look for as problematic areas on a Z.
  14. 280z 2+2 but if you can't tell the difference, you would save a lot of money buying a Z .
  15. Basically the only good part for our Zs is the LD28 crank.
  16. Thanks Alan. A good case of looks OK in photos but probably got a lot of other things wrong with it.
  17. How cool is that photo? Notice the rear tow hook under the rear bumper? Never seen that on a 240z in AU. I guess they all went missing? Also notice the early fender mirrors on the AU market cars. Which as far as I've found is specific to the AU cars only. I wonder if it's a pure white car or another colour? Would be fantastic if it was a Safari Gold car, but somehow I doubt it based on the black and white colour. Where is that car now? Does it still exist? So many questions...
  18. I like to see as many photos as possible. Ask if he / she can supply photos of following areas: 1. Battery tray / firewall area (notorious for rusting out). 2. Rocker Panels / Sill Areas (lower front guards) 3. Rear hatch area / slam panel etc.. 4. Floors 5. Doors / inner areas / door skins / top of door near window stainless trim always stress cracks. 6. Wheel house area usually rusts down the bottom in front of the rear wheel 7. Chassis rails - particularly under where seats are positioned, but also near front struts 8. Spare wheel area (although not a huge deal if it has a minor rust hole - as it can be taken out easily undoing spot welds). 9. Petrol filler area. As Peter above mentioned I use other bits of meta data to determine what's going on with a car. The front bonnet may be mis-aligned due to the hinge itself being out of alignment more so than an indicator of accident damage. In my opinion the more original a car is, the less it's been messed with and better it has been looked after. Photos hide a lot especially when taken from a distance, if the seller is honest they will be able to send you lots of detailed photos. Ideally you want to see detailed photos of any restoration work that was done when it was repainted. Otherwise get someone to go have a look and take a fridge magnet with them. That should let you know how much filler is under the paint. I've noticed the price has shot up in the last day, still 6 days to go interesting....
  19. Import from the UK? http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/datsun/240z/datsun-240z-1973/2212721 Could sell the motor off later?
  20. Sorry but I'd rather let the owner communicate what is happening with it. Another member spotted it near his house with no plates on it and thought nothing of it at first, but after looking on the forum noticed it was the same car.
  21. This car has been found, but I'll let the owner provide any further updates on what's going on.
  22. So the purpose of this thread is to give people a place to post an engine number they are either looking for or have in their possession and then if anyone ever Google's that engine number it should show up in search results. I'm starting this thread purely for selfish reasons as I'm looking for L24-015253 which belongs to HS30 000150 I recently came across: L24-083642 L24-322254 L24-055011 On this eBay ad item number: 151273284442 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Engines-240Z-L24-Nissan-Datsun-N42-/151273284442 Seller: http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/stand21 If you've got any motors sitting around doing nothing and they are not original to your car, feel free to post the numbers in this thread. Likewise if you're looking for an engine number post it here also. Who knows perhaps a few members will find their original motors under a dusty bench somewhere? Stranger things have happened.
  23. http://www.cartorquetv.com.au/ Looks like it isn't uploaded yet. http://www.cartorquetv.com.au/#!stories/c22q2
  24. Yeah I actually met a fellow recently who told me his University had a 3D printer but I can't remember who it was and I didn't want to ask to use it - too soon the relationship lol... I will have to look into it, but I might have 1 at work that I can get access to. Google has (edit* looks like they sold it actually) a 3D printer repository where you can upload open source models etc.. http://www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-make But the basic version still appears to be free. So many parts could be printed that are NLA or very difficult to obtain. It would be great to create an open source repository so that we can share and improve designs.
