sydney mike Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Hi all, record hot day in Sydney today, decided to take the wife and kids to the beach. Parked the family hack which is a 2007 Honda CRV under a tree. When returned to car , it was like somone splashed some milk on the bonnet. Could not go home and clean it off straight away as I had to take my father to doctor's appointment afterwards. It seems the heat has caused the tree to drop sap on the paint and now it's set like wood glue. Any suggestions for the safest way of removing it? cheers, Mike Quote
Sirpent Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 #1 Heat up spots with a hair dryer to reactivate it #2 Go to super cheap and buy some prep wash #3 Use plenty of cotton rags you have be as liberal as you like with the prep wash (prepsol) it wont hurt the paint Cheers John Quote

pauly_adams Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 the best idea is, get a tea towel put it on the bonnet boil the jug and pour it on the tea towel, it will melt the tree sap and stick to the towel. the best thing is you will not need any nasty chemicals and is the safest on your paint. it works a treat Quote

I'm working away from home at the moment so have not tried anything yet, but I have bought the prepsol. Don't have a beltsander but will a STIHL do? Same same. Quote
webmanic Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Yeah had this problem but mine also involved bat crap baked on good. I have been using the same removal method for years and it amazingly works. 1. Put some concentrate dishwashing liquid in some glad wrap. 2. Cup the gladwrap in hand and a little water. 3. Place gladwrap over mark/blemish on car paint or glass 4. Clear out the air and slightly mix in detergent and water against the mark. 5. Go away and do something for 10-20 minutes. Enjoy a coffee. 6. Come back with a cloth and wipe it away. The detergent breaks down the substance and makes it soft. Better under the sun because the heat helps. Works every time. Quote
