dat240z Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Sorry to bring up this rubbish topic but as this is the best and most informative forum on the web, I thought id get a good answer here. Car 01 Magna Manual. Went to change the interior light, failed to operate. When I went to start car after attempt, it took 5 secs to finally fire. Also the trip computer was flashing like it had been reset. Central locking also dead. Worked out they both live on same fuse, but the fuse looks ok. Been driving with these issues until I have time to fix. Then this morning it just wound over and over and over and no firing..... any tips??? Just replace fuse anyway? Sorry for terrible thread. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Scoota G Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Yea replace the fuse and reset ecu by disconnecting battery for a period of time. Using brake too can help dissipate electrical energy in the system. Check fuseable links? (Do they have like the square type fuse boxes) Quote
Patch Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I had problems last week with my 02 Renault Scenic, it would wind over and not fire sometimes and was getting more often, did a search with Google and removed and cleaned the TDC sensor, the tip got dirty from clutch dust, works fine now. maybe worth a try, mine was at the back reads off fly wheel. RB30X Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Googling your problem and checking magna forums would be your best bet. We might try to help but if we aren't familiar with magnas then were just guessing. Quote
dat240z Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 Yeah Ive googled and had a look at "aussiemagnas forum" - lol. waiting for them to allow me to be a user so I can harrass them directly. Quote
DAZDA Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Apparently Magnas of that era are sensitive to low battery voltages. I was having issues (2000 Manga auto) with the alarm resetting (and not recognising the remote keys) and the engine turning off just after starting (perfectly). The battery was about 4 years old and borderline according to my multi-meter. Put in a new battery and all my problems went away and have been gone for 6 months. Quote

Noticed similar dash flickering (which was my indicator voltage was dropping). Got the multimeter out and fair enough strange will crank and keep cranking but voltage dropped down to 6V while cranking. No way its going to run the ECU. Put a different battery on it and started first go. Quote
Michael Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Clean all the earth points to the chassis, there funny cars lol. Quote
dat240z Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 Thanks fellas, I did all above mentioned suggestions and its good to go now.... Cheers Quote
neRok Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Clean all the earth points to the chassis, there funny cars lol. I was going to say this too. When that bulb stopped working, you lost a dodgy earth point Had similar things happen in a VS commodore when the earth bolt to the body and all the attached wires started coming loose. Wipers would go when you indicated etc. Funny stuff! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted January 10, 2013 Moderators Posted January 10, 2013 Stick a multimeter across the terminals, and check the volts while cranking; if it goes below 11.0V, time for a new battery! Quote
