Retro Z Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Hi guys wondering if anyone can help me in regards to the size, length and thread pitch of the L28 efi inlet manifold bolts. I have lost the bag of bolts that belonged to the manifold after removing the manifold while doing some work on my engine recently. Searched for days now online and in my workshop manual and it doesnt specify the bolt size. Hoping someone has an answer so i can go buy some from bunnings this weekend. Alternatively if someone has a set of stock bolts lying around i will happily purchase and pay for postage. Thanks Quote
benny Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 if i had to guess... m10 1.25 thread pitch. Maybe 40mm long. Quote
Retro Z Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 Thought so too going by the exhaust manifold bolts. But don't have a thread gauge or know what bolt head size they were. Quote
luvemfast Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 M10 x 1.25 is a fine pitch thread. Standard M10 is 1.5mm pitch. Quote
luvemfast Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 If its the same thread as manifold studs? Aren't they M8 x 1.25? Quote
MaygZ Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 M10 x 1.25 is a fine pitch thread. Standard M10 is 1.5mm pitch. If its the same thread as manifold studs? Aren't they M8 x 1.25? Well Sheldon, you certainly cleared that one up? :o Quote
C.A.R. Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 If in doubt, Nissan still sell the correct manifold bolts, at 'about' $2 each. Quote
Retro Z Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 Have you got the part number on that Lurch? already been to repco aswell as my local nissan and they couldn't find anything listed for 280zx engine. Quote
benny Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 just had a look out in the shed... still think that its M10 1.25 if youve got a box of old zed bolts just see what fits then take that in. I think this is the correct part number also : 08134-04510 based on item 19 in this diagram http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsunS30/DatsunZIndex/Engine280Z/ManifoldEgr/FromAug76/tabid/1606/Default.aspx Quote
peter t Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Just go to Auto Bahn they have them. Got all mine from them. Good idea to run a tap into the head to clean up threads as well and blow out with air before fitting new studs. Quote
Retro Z Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Thanks Peter. When you say Autobarn has them do you mean 'nissan' ones or just generic bolts? So far i've been to Nissan, Burson and Repco here in Melbourne and none can get the Nissan ones. So im having to resort to just getting something similar from Bunnings once i know the actual size and length. Quote
benny Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 tai i recently just used the "champion" brand though they do have a much larger head then the nissan ones. Quote
Retro Z Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 Yeah i checked them out today. All of the bolts i found today that may suit all had 17mm heads and much to large for my manifold which is only notched for 12-14mm heads. So going to check bunnings or a bolt place tomorrow. :-\. The simple things are really slowing down my project. Still looking for that LHR strut and 73 pedal box aswell. Getting over it to be honest. Quote
