luke240ZED Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Hi, I've been spending a bit of time under the Z of late as well as doing the timing a number of times and I have noticed the harmonic balancer rubber is looking very average. It's looking very dry and starting to crack, so I thought prevention would be the best medicine. Does anyone have one of these in good condition or can I send it away for a rebuild? Cheers Luke Quote
C.A.R. Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Ross Balancers can rebuild the OEM one for you, BUT from the reports I've heard it is not as good as the way the factory did them. Do yourself a favour & get an ATI one from the states - they are $480 delevered, but you'll never need to worry about it again. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATI-917800/ Quote
luke240ZED Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Holy crap Lurch, now that's a serious balancer. Thanks for the link but I was hoping for something a little less $$$ so hopefully something else might pop up Cheers Luke Quote
silverz Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Hi, For your info I have copied and pasted (see below) from a previous post I made ref how I got my harmonic balancer issue sorted. This was over 2 years ago and the balancer is still fine. Regards Peter "Hi, I recently had problems with the harmonic balancer on my 240Z. It seems after 37 years the rubber damper started to disintegrate. This meant the pulley had moved forward from the centre of the balancer and was continually slipping so the fan belt was running on an angle and the timing mark kept moving. I looked around for options and wasn't really happy getting a second hand one and running the risk of the same thing happening. I was told a new one was only avail ex Japan for around $400. I found a Company called Precision Parts in Wagga that said they could rebuild my balancer if I sent it to them. I posted the balancer to them and within a week I had it back looking like new. Total cost including GST and Priority Air Freight to Townsville was $166.90 I was concerned that the timing mark may not be in the correct position so as advised by Precision Parts we checked this on re assembly and it appears to be spot on. I am extremely happy with the result and would recommend to anyone that they check out this option if they have harmonic balancer issues. Contact details for Precision Parts: www.precisionparts.com.au phone: 02 69378888 Regards Peter" Quote
d3c0y Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I was going to write exactly what Lurch did. You can even get an under driven one for a couple of extra HP... Quote
luvemfast Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I was going to write exactly what Lurch did. You can even get an under driven one for a couple of extra HP... I have one of these and they are sexy. Bug I thought that the under-run pulley was to spin the ancillaries spin slower at high RPM's? Quote
