Replacing rear springs and shocks

Greetings all,

 

I intend replacing my existing tired rear springs and shocks on my 240 with new 30mm lowered King springs and KYB shocks.  When I go to the manual and 'How to Restore you Z',  they speak about removing the entire rear suspension to tackle this.

 

I can vaguely recall with my earlier car back in the 90's we replaced these in situ - although it was a bit of a challenge to compress the spring far enough to clear the guard lip.

 

Is this relatively straight forward - or do I have to go the full removal (I will have to address this anyway in the longer term).

Hi Paul Just do it all insitu for front and rear.... just drop the assembly by undoing the top 3 nuts and force it down and out to clear the guard. You may have to disconnect rubber brake line, but other wise its easy as pie.

It is safer to remove the clips and one or two brackets from the brake lines to help get as much movement out of them. Also disconnect your handbrake cable and disconnect your half shafts and be careful with the wheel arch!

Hi Paul,

I cannot offer any advice on how to replace your springs and shocks. However  I need to do the same thing to my car and am interested as to where you sourced the KYB rear shocks from? KYB was recommended to me however from my enquiries it seemed the rears are not available in Australia?

I would be very grateful if you are able to let me know where you are getting the shocks from?

I am keen to source them from Australia if possible to keep more money in the country etc.

Peter,  I purchased the KYB shocks through Motorsports Auto in California.  They are good value, even with the shipping cost, and the parts turn up at the front door  - hard to beat.  Cheers,  Paul

Datsport in SA do a lot of KYB shocks, If you have measurements of what you need Baz may be able to help you out.
