Mickl Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I used to keep a notebook with details taken from the Saturday herald classifieds of any car models I was interested in buying. I just found this old book during a cleanout and there is a page with details of about 15 zeds for sale over a 5 week period in March/April 1983. Most were 240`s priced between $4300 and $5300 The 260`s were dearer in those days and between $5000 and $6000 I ended up buying a 260 for $3700 a couple of months later but didn`t keep it very long. If only I had chosen a 240 and kept it til now! mickl Quote
1600dave Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Seems cheap, but then again I bought my first house in 1985 - cost me $38,000. So a 240Z in the 80's for, say, $5000 was 7.6% of the cost of my house. Same house now is roughly $250,000 - 7.6% of $250,000 is $19,000, which gets a reasonable 240Z. Good old inflation Quote
Scando Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Yep, if you said that Z was worth about $20K now then it's about 6% return pre year. Not that great compared to other investments but still nice to have cars that go up instead of backwards Quote
dat2kman Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 And in 1980, i was $200 shy of the selling price at $800 for a 1967 Datsun 1600 Roadster, in yellow. It did sell for the 800. Jump to 1989 i picked up my first 2000 Sports for 5k used it plenty, clened it up a lot, had someone pull me over on a side street, offered me 10k on the spot. I still know where it is, its now a full resto car, and went to Japan, for 40 k It was yellow! Quote
Gordo Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I traded my first car,180B, in on a 76 260z 2+2 in 1982 and paid $6999. Was my first zed of seven. Just can't seem to get away from the Datsuns. I love em. Quote
mossy Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 How about the missed opportunity of an S20 engine and gearbox for sale at EKW in the eighties. Quote
PeterH Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 In 1973 I bought a new 240z for very close to $5000 on the road in Sydney ..... a years pay in those days...... I bought a 1973 240z last year for double that... a lot less than a years pay now..... I guess the upside now I'll be able afford the insurance....... seniors discount etc....I wish I could remember more about the old car...... Quote
