mouse240z Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 hi all, can anyone tell me, does the the car in this picture have 16" wheels or 15" and are there any problems with running 16" panasports on 240z's. Cheers Kevin. Quote
sco_aus Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 Yeh 16's to me too. It all depends on the offset and width. 16'2 tend to fit pretty well in zeds, but there too many variables that we dont know, so let us know more about the wheel and we can help. Quote
zedevan Posted June 23, 2007 Posted June 23, 2007 the wheels in the pic look more like performance superlites, and is probably more likely since the car is in australia? panasports cost heaps over here rota have released their version of these wheels in 17" which might look quite sexy, i think they are a bit under US$700 for a set. Quote
Toecutter Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 I think you get the Performance Superlites in 16" now for about $230 a rim and offset would be perfect on the Z! Quote
modular9 Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 yeh i can concur with Mr cutter! looking at some charcoal centred 15 x 7 set and they are bolt on with no problems ( at least that is what the guy delivering them to MGworld said ) www.performancewheels.com.au have a downloadable PDf that has the offset stuff as well as how to measure it. Gonna print it all out and have a look. Quote
modular9 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Toecutter : not allowed them in Qld apparently. Beaurepairs ( I was just passing them so i popped in ) said i wasnt allowed more than 15x7 and 195 x65x15 tyres by law. Now I downloaded the latest modifcation rules from QLD transport and it said as long as the overall diameter including tyres was the same it didnt matter ( my brother just got a rwc with 19 inch blingy doof doof wheels with 35 series tyres on a vl turbo ). but the bloke at beaurepairs wasnt having it. So I spose 16's would be nice if i could find a dealer that would fit them . The bloke at beaurepairs even told me to take my vin number and ring nissan to find out EXACTLY what my car(Exactly) was first registered with and he would put them on for me. Anyway quote of 295 $ a wheel at 15x7 superlites (charcoal interiors )from performancewheels though. 6 week waiting list. must be popular Quote
sco_aus Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Yeh it would be rolling diameter(over all diameter) that is the measured size, so as long as it is within an inch of the original rolling diameter, then it is fine. i believe an inch is the same for width, but i am only going off of NSW and ACT laws here, though they seem to be the same for most states in this regard. Quote
modular9 Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Sco-aus : interestingly enough the link to the simmons wheels that you posted were on of the cars at the racq motorfest up here. Now he has 15 x7 with 215 and 225 on them. So i think i need to find someone other than beaurepairs to do this. And i am now positive that you are right about diameters as well. In this blokes defence he looked like kerry packers son but without the money so he probably doesnt have a lot of luck in life -- bloke just p$#$ed me off with some real inane stuff. So to bring this thread back on topic : superlites and 16 inchers are my guess. Quote
Toecutter Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Yer last time I enquired with the Performance wheels factory they had them in 16x7 and I'm pretty sure the rep said 16x8 with 16x10 on the way. That was one year ago. I always thought it would look nice to fir the 16x7 at the front with 205 tyres and a 16x8 at the rear with a 225 tyres. I reckon the rear would be a tight fit but would look nice with a bit of dish. Good luck with your final choice and do keep us posted! Quote
PZG302 Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 The last superlite catalogue I picked up from my tyre bloke a few months ago has the 16X8, 7 and 10's available with 17" out soon. The offsets and back spaces for the wheels are: 16x7 - 12mm +ve with BS 112mm 25mm +ve with BS 125mm 35mm +ve with BS 135mm 16X8 - 4mm -ve with BS 110mm 4mm +ve with BS 118mm 16x10 - 26mm -ve with BS 112mm Hope this helps a few of you out there looking at wheels. zedevan Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 sounds like good options to me i never came across all the different offsets availble, the shop told me i'd b pushing it to get 16x8 under the rear so i wonder which offset they were refering to, i'm thinking the -4mm as they were saying it would hit the guards. from memory they wanted aroun 250 for the 8", 230 for the 7" and it was another 50 a wheel to get the black finish, or mayb that was to get hyper chrome, which makes sense as it would take more effort... i could see myself buying some solid titanium coloured 16" wheels for not attracting as much attention or as much effort to keep clean lol, and looks cool as watanabe rip offs Quote
PZG302 Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 On my 240 race car I run 18X8's all round with standard struts that have had the seats lowered, so I have the worst clearance problems of anyone . I am running essentially 235/35/18 slicks on them and have no clearance issues. The whells were made to specifically suit our suspension set up in terms of offset and backspace, though backspace was the obvious limiting factor. We have gotten the wheels to tuck in under the guards by cutting the lip off the fronts and pumping them out a touch, with the rears we have used fibreglass "eyebrow" flares off a Suzuki 4WD. Keeps the lines of the standard body without spoiling it with oversized flares like some others have had to do to fit their wheels. The next wet will have to be Simmons, as they can make up the three piece wheels to suit my needs at a reasonable price without sacrificing quality, definately needed on the track Quote
NZeder Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Here is a pic of a 260z (well actually a Fairlady Z ie was L20aE power now L28e powered) and it has the performance 16x7 rims on it. So I think the photo of the orange 240z is Panasports before performance released the 16 as that photo is not new I recall seeing it on another zed site about 3/4 years ago and I don't think performance wheels had the 16's then. This would be an interesting combo with ZG flares. 16x8 - offset 4mm -ve and 16x10 0 offset 26mm -ve ...only thing is I bet you would have to get the extra wide flares to fit the 16x10 in at the rear. I'm pretty sure Ash's race car has 16x10 Challenger wheels made by Performance wheels and the normal flares did'nt cover them. Can someone buy them so we can all find out!? Quote
Toecutter Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Just had another thought, seeing the 16x10 are -26mm and the Wats for ZG's are usually in the 16x9.5 -19mm the Superlites would stick out 13.35mm more than the normal Watanabe ZG configuration. My wheels are 9.5" wide -19 and they sit at the lip of the ZG flares at the rear so you would need wider flares to fit the rear 10" superlites assuming they don't rub the stock spring perch on the inside which I dont believe they would. Watanabe 16x9.5 -19mm, distance of outer rim lip, (or close to as I don't think they include the lip when measured), to the flat of the rim that mounts to the hub would be 139.65mm. Superlites 16x10 -26mm, distance of outer rim lip to the flat of the rim that mounts to the hub would be 153mm. ...anyhow you probably not looking at this size wheels but just sharing some thoughts. Sulio Quote
zedevan Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 yeah even the stock flares are pretty close to not covering the 9.5" -19 wheels, particually when viewed from certain angles! someone needs to make copies of the wider zg flares some of the cars in japan run, they look like they've give an extra 1/2" or so i'd b down for a pair of the rear ones Quote
PZG302 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 The ZG flares should cover a 10" wheel as the Japanese homologated 10" wheels for racing, and only one type of wheel flare. I will have a look at the documents tomorrow at work and see if they show the actual offsets and backspace measurements of the wheels. Quote

I will have a look at the documents tomorrow at work and see if they show the actual offsets and backspace measurements of the wheels. Now don't forget that Nissan Japan did homologate two type of ZG Flares the standard ones you see every and that were fitted to the HS30-H (ie real ZG road cars) and the ZG Overfenders known as the B flares there were much much wider and can be seen on the Nismo S30 see here for a pic. Quote
Toecutter Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 This pic shows standard ZG flares on a 16x10 (I think -26 offset) wheel made by the same company Performance wheels. It's hard to see in this pic but they did stick out past the flare lip by about 10mm. Quote
zedevan Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 there's a picture of a silver/gold gnose'd car thats clearly got slightly wider normal styled zg flares, they are a fair bit more horizontal and look tougher, although those race style ones are kind of special Quote
PZG302 Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 I have just gon ethrough the homologation papers and found that there is no info on wheel backspace or offsets, DOH!, but they do show 8 and 10 inch wheels for front and rear compared to the standard 5.5 inch wheels for the new track measurements. The papers also show one set of "overfenders" for front and rear but unfortunately no sizes or part numbers. CAMS may have covered them with the "Not Valid for PRC" tags they have through the papers. There is a second set of flares for the rear wheels homologated for the 260/280 shells with the follwoing part numbers: R/H 78910-N3020 L/H 78911-N3020 If some one has access to the parts lists they maybe able to get some sizes for them. Quote
modular9 Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Ok surely hanging 10 inch wheels and tires out on that sort of rear end would facilitate a strengthened differential not to mention the suspension. All done without tubs? Does look mighty fine however. Mr toecutter has it right. 16's look just right. I will be going 16's, gee I am an easy sell ! I found out for sure that the beaurepaires guy was talking through a hole in his proverbial. 16 x 7's with 205 series i think. with maybe 215 on the back for that old school look. Problem : just found the queensland distributor for konig rewinds ! Quote
