205 front with 225 rear work well for same rolling diameter front and back. Tyre wall height will be the same. I used this on my 15x7 superlights worked well. Pic below,

Ok surely hanging 10 inch wheels and tires out on that sort of rear end would facilitate a strengthened differential not to mention the suspension. All done without tubs? Does look mighty fine however.

 

Mr toecutter has it right. 16's look just right. I will be going 16's, gee I am an easy sell !  I found out for sure that the beaurepaires guy was talking through a hole in his proverbial. 16 x 7's with 205 series i think. with maybe 215 on the back for that old school look.

 

Problem : just found the queensland distributor for konig rewinds ! 

 

As for having to strengthen diffs and suspension, nope not required. I run 8" wide wheels with slicks on my 240 and run the standard rear end with a locked R180. The only thing I have broken is one output shaft that the drive shafts connects to, and that was after over 5 seasons of racing where the I start by dumping the clutch at 5500 to 6000. If the rear end will take that it will take anything.

 

The homologation papers don't show any strengthened rear end parts for the suspension to take the 10" wheels. As the wheels have negative offset you don't need to worry about tubs, just having flares to cover the wheels

 

For a road car you are really only allowed to go one inch wider in track and for width in Queensland you are limited by the tyre width and what can be fitted to the rims, ie you are allowed a maximum tyre width 1.3 times standard, so for a 240Z which had 175 or 185 as standard you can run a maximum of a 235 or if you can get it a 245.

 

Here's the extract from the modifications to light vehicle guide form Queensland transport:

 

Tyres

The maximum tyre width for a car or car derivative must

not be more than 1.3 times the vehicle manufacturer?s

widest optional tyre.

However, for an off-road passenger vehicle fitted with

front and rear beam axles, the maximum tyre width

must not be more than 1.5 times the vehicle

manufacturer?s widest optional tyre.

The nominal width of the narrowest tyre fitted to a

vehicle must not be less than 70 per cent of the nominal

width of the largest tyre fitted and never less than the

vehicle manufacturer?s narrowest optional tyre as

indicated on the manufacturer?s tyre placard.

Thank you pzg302 ! To hear it from a zed owner is the best to hear. Tyre placard says 195x70x14 so that means 253 width max but i think i will follow toecutter's example.

 

And Mr toecutter... that pic was the pic that sold me on superlites or konig's ( wats are a little too expensive ) Thanks for the width information. I think i like the 15's more than the 16's now the rubber looks more meatier. Time for some photoshop action !

i interpret that is the widest optional tyre availble, and since there is the factory options booklet for s30's which contains a 10" rim i'd say u can go to a 13" rim hehe. would b shattering if 253 is the widest...as have 255's lol.

 

i was reading the sydney law and it said that 8" wheels is the widest you can go on the front. and it sounded like this overrulled the 1.3 statements

zedevan : ahh but this is qld  we have always had draconian laws when it comes to width of tyres etc . I had a xb falcon coupe which in the southern states people regularly put 10" with 295 width tyres on the rear end. Oh not in queensland i had 265 on 9 inch elstar mags and was told to go down to 8 inch and max width of 245.

 

Each state is different i think. Case in point was the hassle i had with my bumperless 260z back end. NSW RTA had no problem with it being bumperless but here in QLD i had to fight tooth and nail. I won!

Nahh, plenty of castor and the set up is for the track, however Z steering is not heavy compred to some of the cars I've owned, Charger with 8 inch rims all round, ZG Fairlane with 7 up front and a 280mm steering wheel, now the Fairlane needed power steering .

 

I think most of us have been spoiled with power steeing available on just about any car nowdays. It was always funny to see someome jump into one of cars without power steering and watch them try to turn the wheel. It really only becomes a slight niggle at parking speeds.
