zedevan Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 What are most people using for the engine mount and gearbox rubbers? Are the stock ones still available from nissan? My question is mainly directed to those with modified engines, as came across the McKinney mounts from the states, and this review where he says he constantly had to replace the stock rubbers - has this been your experiance? dat2kman Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 There is a shop in Brisbane that can renew old mounts, with material of varying durometer hardness. Stock new rubbers would be around 50 durometer, he can go up to 90 durometer. It is a two part liquid mix that sets around the engine, box, or diff mount, and it gets trimmed back to original shape. Expect around $90 per item done. I have can arrange you just need to send your buggered ones, and they are rebuilt new. I have had engine mounts done for very old cars that no longer exist in parts books, no problems. Only other option is new soft standard from Nissan, or harder ones from Nismo, if available, i could enquire, but they get a bit peeved at constant enquireies and no follow up purchase ensues. If you want the hard ones you just say yes and pay the price asked, thats it. Or try Stew Wilkins, maybe his website, or contact direct Quote
zedevan Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 Thanks, its annoying more prices aren't availble online as would definietely help with making the choice. It would be great if you could enquire and relay the information, but I understand the alkward situation with not placing orders and pissing off suppliers! what are all you PMC engined guys using as mounts? d3c0y Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 This is why i was looking at Nismo RB mounts and everyone was like "Why do you want to do that?" Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 mmmmm, i could make something very similar but yet, even more captive to suit L's RB's, SR's or anything. either like pictured, or more like a std mount, just more captive, bit still relatively cushioned. <a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn157/nat0vhZ/?action=view¤t=Image472.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn157/nat0vhZ/Image472.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn157/nat0vhZ/?action=view¤t=Image477.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn157/nat0vhZ/Image477.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> nat0 Quote
Riceburner Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I looked at the Mckinny 240z mounts, the only difference between their '240z poly style' and the 'universal poly mounts' seems to be an aluminium plate 12mm approx and $100 more I was thinking of getting the universal ones and making my own plates..... I just run $35 ebay specials, very soft, they seem ok while the car is on stands Nato, how do your mounts attach to the stock crossmember? Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 just a basic U-bracket/saddle with a bolt, then the mount bolt goes through:- -side/cheek plate of U-brkt -though engine mount in pic link above -other side/cheek plate just think of the latter s30 gearbox cross member, much the same...... the one on my VH45 uses datsun 240/260z aftermarket Moustache bar bushes as engine mounts!!!!! WOW...rare haha at least its from the same car.....lol nat0 Quote

Or try Stew Wilkins, maybe his website, or contact direct I'm running some mounts that are of a blue colour and have been on the car for about 3-4years. Lately they have started to degrade and chunks are come'n off on the exhaust side. I'm looking at getting them redone and maybe running some sort of heat shield on them. I called SW - they only have their $660 rally mount and standard ones for $160 (I think). Quote
dat2kman Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Urethane, poly urethane, the red, yellow, blue etc stuff, is to varying degrees hydroscopic, ie like most brake fluid, it absorbs moisture, which in turn degrades the compounds, causing them to eventually crumble. Ever had an old pair of the nice spongy soled mens industrial work boots, go all a bit crumbly and fall apart, after a few years? Made from same stuff I stick to rubber soled boots. The company, actually he is an elderly chap, gets a bit grumpy when he has to keep running to the phone, and no he wont give over phone quotes. Ie " excuse me, i want my Triumph TR 2 gearbox mount renewed, how much please" answer " send it in so i can look at it, be about $90 each item" You wont get any change back!! It is called Qld Rollers and Liners, in Suscatand St down either Rocklea or Acacia Ridge way. I just give him old broken spongy ( but CLEAN) totally degraded ripped torn mush engine, diff and gearbox mounts, they come back as new. Specify a harder rubber, 90 durometer is VERY stiff, 70 Duro is good for a bit of flex. Standard Nissan mounts will be around 40 to 50 Duro Your soft spongy workboot soles will be around 20 Duro To give you an idea Dont flame me if the bloke at the shop "cant" help, he can be a bit short to us one off walk ns. Most of his work is re rubbering big industrial and mine conveyor rollers, we are just tiny small fry !! Quote
Riceburner Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Has anyone tried any of the above suggestions? My ebay specials have lasted 12months on stands, as well as three runs up and down the driveway! Lol. Quote
Riceburner Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 More searching, I found these on Hybridz. I'll try and get more info on them. Very similar to yours Nat O Could even fit OEM rubber moustache bar bushes. Have you produced any yet? Quote
d3c0y Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I just bought new Nissan OEM off ebay. They arent that dear even shipped. Quote
Riceburner Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I've gone through quite a few sets of engine mounts and front diff mounts in the last few years. I think this captive moustache bar style will be a lot longer living, hopefully! I'm hoping to get a CAD file for the ones pictured above. Quote
d3c0y Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Cool you do the hardwork and ill get a pair too Quote
peter mc Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I have just made some race engine mounts for comp engines , and i will put up pics tomorrow and the stock Nissan ones are all most will ever need , and id have them on all my road engines , but for track cars you need a captive mount , Quote
Riceburner Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Ooooh noice Pete, Look foward to the pics Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I wouldnt need CAD to make them, I already have the Z-car Drawn up and mounts measured up, How many sets do you want/need?? only thing being my downfall.....well..... is id move the motor back within 10mm of the firewall, then lower it til the sump is 10mm off the steering crossmember and rack mount clamps. the rotate the engine slightly (only slightly) more upright, now it would sit lower, gear shifter more @ the driver Then crossflow head, then...... oh yea did someone say they wanted new rubbers??? nat0 Quote
Riceburner Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Did someone say engine mounts? My huge sump is already 10mm or less from the steering rack, so standard height/position will be just fine. Lol. Do you think you could copy they Hybridz type pictured? Cheers, Gareth. Quote
Riceburner Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Doh! I've already started to butcher my spare set of brackets and mounts :'( they look shexy! Forgive my stupidity mate, but I think i only have a single mounting whole with a dowel on the crossmember and only two mounting bolts on the block? Quote
peter mc Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Dont be to freaked out Gareth, its a CA engine in a 1600 ,,, but the L race mounts look just like this but the rubber bush is in mount atached to the block Quote
Riceburner Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Oh whoops! Lol. Do they just take a mustache bar rubber? Quote
