sco_aus Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 So I just read this at work, shame it's only in those countries: http://www.news.com.au/business/breaking-news/nissan-reviving-datsun-brand-for-emerging/story-e6frfkur-1226305613696 Quote
Agno Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Shame its being reintroduced at all... let alone as a low cost bucket car! Quote
Scando Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Unfortunately Agno is right. It's going to be used to sell cheap, poorly produced cars that they don't want to sell under the Nissan name. Quote
sco_aus Posted March 21, 2012 Author Posted March 21, 2012 I know, but meh, thats what it always was Quote
Agno Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I should probably clarify my post. As a zed owner i dont like this plan of reintroducing datsun as a low cost and low quality brand into developing countries because it will kill thr legacy that datsun has in nissans past. i remember datsun for some pretty horrible cars but also for some awesome ones too. If this goes ahead what is the average punter going to say to you when you tell them you own a datsun? Make a new brand, people shopping for a cheap and cheerful car in russia or indonesia wont care if its called a datsun or if its called a (insert name here) Quote
MaygZ Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Dismoon?? get it? not Dat Sun, but Dis moon. rofl yes? Bugger off. Have a look at the time and I've been working all night. That's as funny as I get at this time of the day. Quote
Quandary Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Am I the only one somewhat optimistic about this? So what if they will use it to market cheap cars? Datsuns were cheap to begin with. I'm just going to love to buy the other half a Datsun to replace the aging Pulsar. The badge is being updated according to this article. doudous Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 It's good. A brand is about building heritage. Datsuns have always been cheap cars - just happen to be some very good cheap cars. That's the appeal.... my cheap Datto is better than your mega-bucks Porsche! When my dad had a 928GT in 1994 and I had my 240Z - I was driving a kid's bomb - I sold it for $7000 and it was a top Zed. I sold a beaut 928 last year for $12K !!! I just sold a Zed for more 4X that! The mind boggles! A continuing Datsun story is a good thing. In 20 years time your Zed will have even more history and a bigger story and be more valuable than some obscure name from the 70's that the world and the new generations have forgotten about... Quote
sco_aus Posted March 23, 2012 Author Posted March 23, 2012 Maybe a R35 GTR Datsun, cop that Porsche, another faster datto for half the price lol Quote
Cdr Zero Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I think it's a good thing... In my dreams they would bring out a Datsun competitor to the FT-86! Quote
