TBOWGN Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Hey guys, Im just stuck for the moment taking out the engine of my 260 2+2. Ive got it strapped up with an engine crane, the 4 bolts around the bell housing are out and ive taken out everything else that is in the way. The engine is up in air about 50mil, (off the engine mounts) but i cant seem to seperate the block from the bell housing??? Do i need to brace the transmission to stop it falling down once ive seperated the two? The car is on the ground, braced at the front and sitting on its back wheels at the rear... Any suggestions?? Cheers, Lars Quote
BobsYourUncle Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Is it an auto? If so, I think you need to remove the bolts holding the torque converter to the flex plate. Quote
nizm0zed Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 only 4 bolts? Have you removed the starter motor? the inspection cover from underneath? Is it an auto (if so, disconnected the 3?4? bolts that hold the torque converter on?) Its good practice to support the front of the gearbox, because it WILL drop when the engine is seperated. once you have removed all the bolts, raise the engine, then from the front, rock it side to side while pulling it forwards. its not uncommon for it to have a couple of bellousing dowels (and a clutch input shaft if manual) that need to be straight in order to slide smoothly apart.
