Fitting autometer elec speedo + tacho

Just finishing off my hybrid rb25det conversion and am looking to fit some autometer phantom guages (speedo/tacho)

has anyone done this before and is it a basic swap? motor is running standard computer and i was hoping on placing the pulse sensor on the cat instead of the z mechanical cable type?

any info would be great.

The good news is if you get the 5" gauges and put some electrical tape around the outside they push fit into the stock holes.

Dunno about tacho, but, the rb25det box should have the electric pulse speedo output screwed in, instead of the usual flex cable thing?

If not, S14 Sylvia's have the electric pulse output, it is then a matter of calibrating the new speedo unit to the pulse count, via switches on back of speedo.

VDO have these speedos, i assume Autometer do similar.

With the hotrod boys, they run the gearbox flex cable up behind dash, and fit the optional accessory cable to electric pulse converter, and just wire that into the mew speedo.

Bonus is, your car will be "brand new" with 0 kms up!!

Lots of info on this on HybridZ.

I'm sure you'll find someone with your engine combo that has fitted these gauges on that site.

I have autometer gauges in mine, the tach needs a tach adaptor to work properly, about an extra $100

The speedo is easy, as skyline gear has an electronic signal, just hook up to the sensor and calibrate on a 5klm run.

It it is easier to get some back strapping and bend to shape for mounts, with a wing nut on the back. The tach adaptor can be mounted under the dash. It's a little square box.

Do yourself a favor and use LEDs, these are an extra cost.

Does anyone know where to source a universal speedo sensor (magnet type)??

i cant use the screw in type as there isnt any room between the box output and the tranny mount?

am using autometer phantom electronic speedo and tacho....

you can get the universal ones as 'spare parts' from cruise control kits.

Command brand cruise control kits use a nice setup.

Autopro, Autobarn, Repco, Bursons ect should be able to help you out on that, as should Morabbin Auto Spares.
