tattoo_ink Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 hey i was thinking of buyin a bare 240z shell and putting everything thats in the 260 into the 240 just wondering whats interchangable and whats not eg:suspension, steering, body panels, interior, glass, motor and box doesnt matter so if anybody has any info would be greatly appreciated ? cheers chris. sorry if theres a thread on this as i couldnt find it Quote
Sooley Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I think most parts would be. The diff and struts are stronger and bigger than the 240Z and the rack is also. I think just the obvious bits wouldn't fit LIKE THE LLLLLLLOOOOONNNGER DOOR TRIMS. Sooley Quote
tattoo_ink Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007  thanks......the dash and taillights are different to arent they ? what about the fuel tank and hatch ? sorry just trying to weigh up the pros and cons. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 Basically everything from the front seats forward will swap over without too much trouble. And basically everything back wont fit - doors, hatch, bumpers, shocks, (except for A arms, mustache bar, diff, brakes which will fit). Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 9, 2007 Posted May 9, 2007 complete rear suspension fits!! unlike above post suggest. handbrake cables rear brakes, halfshafts, diff, stub axles (but if you include these in complete rear suspension) nato Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted May 10, 2007 Posted May 10, 2007 complete rear suspension fits!! unlike above post suggest. handbrake cables rear brakes' date=' halfshafts, diff, stub axles (but if you include these in complete rear suspension) nato[/quote'] Yes it fits, if you want to build a rally car. Otherwise the rear struts are longer on the 2+2 than the 240z and will give you a big gap between the wheel arch and the top of the wheel. So yeah if you want the rear of your 240z to be jacked up, 60's hot rod style, then go right ahead  Quote
nat0_240_chevZ Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Yea whatever, you just swap the strut tops as this is where they are longer. Or you could run the 2+2 struts complete with lowered kings, lovels whiteline or auroras. either way, you can use them. but if you didnt or just dont know then i would be holding back with your 60's hotrod statements. The front and rear suspension are totally interchangable. nato Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 I've had a 240Z strut and a 260Z strut side by side on a bench together, so I know exactly how they are different. Quote
Toecutter Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I was of the impression the early 260z (ie 1974) rear strutt towers were the same size as the 240z whilst the later model 260z towers are higher. This might explain the discrepency! Anyhow if you do change the strutt tops I guess that eliminates that issue. Looking at my 74 I'm sure that is the case. Quote
JP240z Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 will 240 strut tower vynil fit my mums '75 2seater? Quote
Toecutter Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I would guess no but measure the size of the towers in your 240 with the ones one your mums car and give us some feedback if you get a chance!? Quote
zedevan Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 i think its only the 74 260z that have the same size towers, but have a look, the difference is semi obvious once u know what to look for, would b nice if they fitted all of them as i know i'd like some diamond stitching! Quote
JP240z Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 far out, i hope they fit, coz she's already got a good set of diamond ones. did 260's also have the diamond on the transmission tunnel and on the vertical panel behind the seats? Quote
zedevan Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 they are squares not diamonds...although they are diagonal squares so i guess they would still b called diamonds? my car has them on the towers, that verticle bit behind the seats and the trans tunnel Quote
24OZ Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 some fiery replies guys  on a lighter note in answer to the post..... differences between 240z and a 260z 2+2 ?......at least $5 grand Quote
