Hi guys,

Recently took my Z over the pits and they have decided to pick on my rims.

I am looking to buy or if possible borrow someones rims for a short period so I can take my car over the pits again. Been to a few tyre shops but they cant get me any cheep steel rims.

Cheers

Hi Bryn

Nice looking car from what I can make out of your gallery shots. Is it a 240Z or a 260Z - from what I think I can glean from your previous posts it is a 240Z?

Are the inspectors insisting on steel rims for your car or will they find the stock alloy 260Z rims or some other 14 inch alloy rims acceptable as well? Do they also want to see the original tyre sizes on the rims or will they accept the 195/70 14" of the later model Zeds?

The other thought that crossed my mind is whether or not you have standard brakes and if not, will standard rims actually fit on your car without additional alterations?

I am a little curious as to how the rim issue came to the fore in the first place and just exactly what they are expecting from you. Unfortunately I am located outside Albany and am of little use to you down here unless you become truly desperate. However, if we have a few more details I am sure that a solution will emerge.

If you need a quick fix then contact Martin Falconer of Tuneright - Zeds are his specialty.

Regards

Hi Dave,

Its a 240Z,

The problem with my wheels is that they are too fat, I have an engineers certificate for the engine (its got a RB20 in it) and the certificate specifies stock rims (14" 195/70). The tyres on my car are 17" 255 and 275 on the rear. So basically I just need to get wheels that are a similar size, they dont specifically have to be 240Z rims.

The brakes on the car are stock, I have one standard rim as my spare tyre that I tested and it fits.

I will give Martin Falconer a call on monday, thanks for that.

Thanks for your help.

It's been engineered for an RB20DET with stock brakes?  ???

Its on my list when I have enough money to get it done properly, might see if I can get an engineering certificate for my wheels at the same time.

Hey Funzies,

Send me a PM and I can lend you some stockies to get you over the pits. They have 215/65/14 fitted, would that be an issue? They are the stock 14x5.5 rim, just with giant balloon tyres.

Stupid thing is they are likely legal and yet FAR more dangerous than proper ratio tyres.
