Hi Guys,

I've just bought a 1977 260z 2+2 after looking around for a while. I've previously restored a 1975 240k 4 door (a few years ago now) which I guess gave me the bug and I probably never should have sold it! But, the past is past and if I am honest I always wanted a zed anyway. So on to the car... As I said it's a '77 - original manual, it's red with some rust cut out already but generally the body is rust free, engine is completely stock - it even has the flat tops and standard air box - original alloys, original interior and it came with all the books and receipts including the purchase receipt. I think I'm about the 4th or 5th owner. And now on to the plan..... well when I started looking around I had this grand plan of what I wanted my zed to look like and what mods I would do to it along the way. Now I have the car, I consider how the previous owners have resisted the temptation to modify and I'm now thinking I might try to keep it as stock as possible. Whatever I do the car will become my daily drive as well as a bit of fun on the weekends. My next task it to make a list of what needs to be done and try to procure the parts to do it, I'll probably be asking some pretty dumb questions along the way so I will apologize in advance now. I'll kick it off by asking where the best place in Brissie is for zed parts?

Welcome to another Brissy member :)

I can't think of any specific Brisbane based stores, just that you can get most common mechanical stock replacement parts from Supercheap/Repco/Autobahn (will generally have to order in, Repco seems to have a large storage facility in Brisbane and can usually get parts out to your local store by the next day).

There is also Coventry Auto for parts.

If you are missing any parts 'galderdi' lives Northside and generally has used parts lying around at VERY reasonable prices, I would say too cheap ;)

There is a more 'official' Z Wrecker near Ipswich, Datsun z bits ph: 5464 5056. He seems to have nearly every part you can think of (used of course) but not as crazily cheap as galderdi. galderdi btw is not a wrecker, he is a member who just happens to have wrecked a few cars over the years and is always incredibly helpful ;)

Going a bit further than Brisbane (NSW to be exact), Stewart Wilkins Motorsport has a good rep specifically for more 'race' based products http://www.swmotorsport.com.au/

If you need specific things like brake, diff, gearbox work etc etc there are generally some good businesses around Brisbane that people can recommend.

You can still get a lot of parts from Nissan. Some are surprisingly cheap, some are ridiculously expensive. I have ordered stuff through Westpoint at Indooroopilly but the best contact who seems to look a little harder for you is Trev at Brighton Nissan (VIC). http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=1736.0

If you are after some new parts to make the old bus pretty again, your best bet is the American Stores

www.blackdragonauto.com and zcarparts.com are good for the majority of bits and pieces.

Still in the US, if you want performance www.arizonazcar.com and www.modern-motorsports.com/ are pretty good for suspension/brakes.

Parts come up for sale regularly on this site and there is of course always ebay.

If you're looking for information, try google searching with: " 'your search term' site:www.viczcar.com " It tends to bring up better results than the search bar here. Always search before you post any questions as many different people have done a great number of upgrades/mods/replacements to these cars and the z veterans get sick of reading the same questions, not to mention that it clutters up the forum. Another good site if you are doing any modifications (engine swaps etc) is hybridz.org

Anyways that should be enough to keep you busy. Us Brissy boys should have a catch up again, it's a shame that I have been to busy this year to do much Z stuff :(

Haha, welcome to another QUEENSLANDER! Warren at All Z Parts is another parts person of the Zed world. Searching nissan/datsun parts on flea bay also can help depending on the part you are after. I needed 300zx turbo axles, and just picked up a pair as a guy was parting out a whole 1986 car, there were no axles on their own for sale, if you know what I mean, ohh to hell with it. Welcome mate!

Thanks for all the info and contacts, once I get a parts list together I'll certainly be talking to some of them. Good to see there's still some friendly rivalry between QLD and Vic! If there is a get together up here in the north, count me in.

Welcome mate, and don't be too worried about modifying the car.

Haven't recently owned a r32 gtr by any chance?

I'd love to say yes to having n r32 gtr, but sadly the last thing from the nissan stables I owned was my 240k. I'm happy to be flying the 2+2 flag, a 2 seater would be no use to me as I've already got the +2 and the wife wouldn't approve the car unless it had a back seat.

No worries, thought you might be someone who recently bought parts off me.

I too have a 2+2, thought I would need the back seats, but have only used them twice in 5 years. Having said that, in the future when the car is going again the kids will occupy the back seats.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm yet another Brissy dude with a 260z 2+2. Looking forward to see what you're gonna do with it! Maybe start a build thread for it if it has any big plans :D

Welcome. My vote goes to keeping it stock, not too many original zeds left these days, becoming a real rarity.

If you decide to modify, best plan is to do bolt on options that can be easily reversed and keep your original parts in the shed. :)

+ 1. Welcome. A near standard Z is still a pretty sight and turns heads. 8)
