Scoota G Posted February 6, 2013 Author Posted February 6, 2013 Riddle me this! In that US based zed club link would you not need to flip the Aussie Bracket around the other way and then weld it at 11 o'clock to achieve the same result as the US Bracket which is obviously the other way around. Funny that the handbrake remains on the same side but. Weird Much? Quote
Scoota G Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Took a 302 V8 Cleveland Powered 2+2 Zed with R31 rears, proportioning valve and S12+8 Front Calipers on solid rotors and passed engineering pulling .93 G's stopping power with a .8 required for a pass. May be useful info for those going down a similar path. This was the fade test results. gav240z 1 Quote
Retro Z Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 So is .93 good? Or just adequate? And thats with stock master Cylinder right Quote
Scoota G Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 So is .93 good? Or just adequate? And thats with stock master Cylinder right Well 1 G is 32.174 ft/sec² so google says. Is it good? Well it's a pass and that was all i was concerned about. The engineer said he didn't put a lot of pressure on them and they were not smoking. Master cylinder is a 15/16 280ZX. Just handy for people to know that this combination will pass engineering. Quote
red76z Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I have since done the handbrake mod to suit the disc brake mod. I thought it would be handy to take a view pictures along the way to help you guys with your future mods. It has made the handbrake angle go from 90deg to about 40 deg. This mod is quite easy to do. you will see 2 handbrake brackets in the pictures I have posted, The dirty one is the original which I will not use because of excessive wear. The sandblasted one is from my doner Z out the back. Very Handy. Step 1 undo the 4 bolts holding the bracket to the tunnel 10mm socket and disconnect cotter pins and cable. step 2 cut the small pivot in the middle of the bar off. step 3 weld the small pivot back on at 11 o'clock angle. step 4 drill a new 10.5mm hole 32mm up from the original pivot point on the long arm (the one that connects to the handbrake lever) Then chop the end off if you want. step 5 you need a shorter bolt to connect the small arm back on to the pivot leading to the handbrake cable y section.(I just used a die 6x1mm and re-threaded the original bolt then chopped 20mm of the end) step 6 reinstall every thing And it works a treat about a 2 hour job P.S take the tail shaft out to make your life easy. datozed Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Did R31 rear disc conversion several years ago. Was never really happy with handbrake operation, long lever travel and lack of adjustment. Have always had my calipers mounted at the 12 o'clock position, which is different to the way I see most people mount them. Have taken a few photos this time to give anyone who is considering this conversion another option. With the caliper mounted at 12 o'clock no problems bleeding the system, no need to extend brake hoses. Handbrake cable is re-routed and secured by bolting a fabricated bracket, which is bolted into two existing holes on top of rear axle housing. These holes are already threaded and the bracket bolts straight on. Handbrake lever on the caliper has to be modified, I simply used a small piece of angle iron welded onto the bottom of the existing arm. This has a hole drilled in it so the cable can be attached with a pin. First time around didn't have cable mounting bracket mounted far enough forward for sufficient handbrake travel. Have now re-drilled these and moved the bracket slightly forward and at the same time I modified the handbrake cable bracket which is mounted in the transmission tunnel (this modification has been covered elsewhere here). Now handbrake has short throw and excellent holding power. Quote
53-681 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Will R32 rear calipers also fit the fabricated brackets used to mount the R31 calipers Scoota G? The reason I ask is simply because R31 rear brakes can be a hassle to service. Quote
Agno Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 No. The mounts are completely different and R32 stuff has no provision for a handbrake Quote
Scoota G Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 I like it when you peoples answer your own questions. Keep up the good work... R31 Rear disc conversions and Flares for everybody (yaaaaay) Quote
53-681 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 How difficult is it to rotate the bracket from the 3 o'clock position to 12 o'clock you reckon Scoota? Quote
benny Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 How difficult is it to rotate the bracket from the 3 o'clock position to 12 o'clock you reckon Scoota? its three bolts sam... Quote
Scoota G Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 How difficult is it to rotate the bracket from the 3 o'clock position to 12 o'clock you reckon Scoota? The holes are not square so you would need to weld them up and redrill. Quote
benny Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 The holes are not square so you would need to weld them up and redrill. My mistake scoot is correct Quote
53-681 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Reckon you can assist me in getting the handbrake working Scoot? Quote
Scoota G Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Reckon you can assist me in getting the handbrake working Scoot? Yea mate you have my mobile. If you want the brakes on a different orientation i have another set of brackets here that could be modified to suit before you drop in on changeover basis. Would make the process a fair bit quicker. Scoota G Posted July 3, 2015 Author Posted July 3, 2015 Update again, based on reclocking the Caliper Brackets on Sam's Zed i have a new design. In the next week i will be offering kits that will resolve issues with having the calipers pointing to the front of the vehicle. Stay tuned! gav240z 1 Quote
Retro Z Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 I'll take 2 sets of the new design to replace the ones i got off you in the past Mark. After having to bleed my brakes a few times i must say i dislike having to remove the calipers everytime to bleed. Quote
Scoota G Posted July 6, 2015 Author Posted July 6, 2015 Sorted. I can say i won't be making brackets the old way anymore. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 10, 2015 Moderators Posted July 10, 2015 Mark, I'll need your wisdom to hook up my handbrake cable again... do you have a pic of that? Quote
Scoota G Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Mark, I'll need your wisdom to hook up my handbrake cable again... do you have a pic of that? Hey Dimitri i am actually working on a new system for this too. I'll be in touch. Quote
Scoota G Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 Ok stay tuned. I have now gone back to the R31 Bracket shortened about 13mm on the stalk and 4mm on the Allen Key bolt. I weld supports on the sides of the bracket bearing in mind that the R31 Handbrake cable clip need to slot in there. I hone out the holes in the brackets with a die grinder to accept the Zed cable. (Welding is to support brackets for honing) I put a more aggressive bend in the R31 handbrake cable clip. I remove the spring from the Zed handbrake cable for full range movement. Then i squeeze the Zed Brackets to suit the pin and fit a thinner (very thin) washer and throw a split pin at it. By now ya'll sayin "dang there's a lot of i's in these instructions" Yes there is, i know there is no I in team but there is an I in Street Weapon Restorations So if you are chasing a kit that is a good price and requires no mods to fit then hit me up. I believe this to be the best combination for this conversion to date. Quote
Scoota G Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Another short note on the new design. The new orientation allows use of a standard R31 Brake line. A lot of positives about this conversion rework. Quote
