620Z Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Boys just letting you know I got a new windscreen fitted into my 260Z on Saturday. and it looks awesome. Why? Well this one has a black rim around it by about 30-40mm with the usual tint at the top. I didn't know they came like that. Has anyone else seen or got one in their car? The black rim, like the modern screens on the bottom and sides looks real neat and hides the ugly joins around the edges. Really happy with it. Instant Windscreens in Moorabbin put mine in and the guy was really good. He spent more than a few hours putting it in and did a great job. If I had known these were around I would have put one in long ago. Cheers Quote
Sirpent Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 How did he go with the chrome trims which seem to be the bain of most installers these days? Did you use a new rubber? Cheers John Quote
620Z Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 G'day John we used my old rubber even though it's over 15 years old. It's still in good condition. He said I didn't need a new one even if it was done again. I don't use the chrome inserts. Never have. So my screen just has the black rubber around it. Quote
Sirpent Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Thanks Buddy, It's just hard to find someone who has the knack of putting the old school trims back in, I lose my patience with them and it really is a 2 man job when you need to do it. Cheers john Quote
Scoota G Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Hey Craig, how much did it cost for the supply and fit? Quote
620Z Posted March 27, 2011 Author Posted March 27, 2011 G'day Scoota. $295- fitted. I will claim it on Insurance since I get one free, but I would have paid for it my self if I had to, just to get a nice screen in. Quote
gilltech Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Hi 620Z, great that you're so rapt with it. Do you mind me asking, is your screen tinted at all (apart from a band across the top)? You see, I had a replacement screen fitted under insurance years ago, & it came untinted so has a greenish hue, whereas the original screen was distinctly light blue tinted as is the glass on the rest of the car. So it doesn't actually match which has always annoyed me a little. At the time I was told I had no other option. The screen was made in Australia. Sounds like your new one with a black edging is a vast improvement. Do you know what brand it is & where it's made? And yes the fit-while-you-wait crew can't handle the stainless-steel inserts, too fiddly for them. I don't suppose you'd be able to post a photo? Quote
620Z Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 Yeah the screen definately has a tint through it. Can't really tell if it is green or blue. But definately has something. All I can give you is the Instant Windscreens Part Number No....DN11102SF from the invoice. Don't know where it was made. Hope that helps. I was going to take a picture at the time but didn't. I might get one up later in the week if I get the time. Quote
gilltech Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Thanks 620Z, part # info is appreciated, I'll make some inquiries. Quote
