zedevan Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 i'd never heard of, and therefore seen this before, but it looks like crazy amounts of fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHgjFPhhzY8&mode=related&search= i'd like to do some motokhana's in the zed, well basically just thrash around in an open space lol Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I've been competing in Motorkhanas on & off since I was 12 (Not to that level through. ) There awesome fun. Probably the most technical driving form of motor sport in the world IMHO. Thats a typical English type of test, with a very special car & an even more special driver. Notice the hydraulic handbrake & fwd/rev box? Quote
Bruce Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I did a motorkhana in my z just before christmas. It was on bitumen at the old BP service Station at Somerton on the hume highway. I needed a bit more grunt to get it to slide, instead of understeering and also a lsd would have been very handy. It was heaps of fun though. When the club is running the next one, I'll post the details. We were hoping to run one at the nationals coming up, but NDSOC wouldn't get back to us about it (after chasing them up numerous times about it). cheers Bruce Quote
zedrally Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 snip but NDSOC wouldn't get back to us about it (after chasing them up numerous times about it). cheers Bruce The NDSOC is incapable of running events as such. CAMS requirements/qualifications for such events are now unbelievable that very few clubs have qualified officials. Grass roots motorsports have been deserted by the over regulation by CAMS. If your thinking about doing something like this, then just go and do it and not inform CAMS. Clubs such as Mini (not suprisingly) are best qualified to host these events. Quote
zedevan Posted January 13, 2007 Author Posted January 13, 2007 y didn't i get to do motorkhana's from the age of 12 as i'm no longer working on the weekends i'd really like to get into doing something with my car, so it would be great if you could post the details next time there's one on heathbruce i was thinking the guy must of been turning perfectly to keep the enertia going of the car, then putting it into reverse, but having a special gearbox makes alot more sense lol are hydrolic handbrakes expensive to set up? Bruce Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 The NDSOC is incapable of running events as such. CAMS requirements/qualifications for such events are now unbelievable that very few clubs have qualified officials. It was Nissan Car Club that approached NDSOC to run it. They run these types of events all year (motorkhanas, auotcrosses, rallys, sprints) under CAMS guidelines. cheers Bruce Quote

I find it difficult to understand that the NCC wouldn't assist in running one unless there has been a huge fallout between the clubs..... Quote
Bruce Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 NCCA approached NDSOC to run a motorkhana at the nationals. (NDSOC never responded unfortunately). Quote
zedrally Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Who exactly is running the Nationals? NCC or NDSOC? Quote
Bruce Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 The whole point of this thread was about how good motorkhanas can be. I made the point that NCCA attempted to get one incorporated into the Nationals. NDSOC are running the event and it is there prerogative as to what is included and what is not. Quote

zedevan Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 the ford four car club? i assume datto's are welcome as their main pic is a 1600 lol i've been looking around their site but can't find anything refering to the event you're talking about, but i dont have microsoft office atm which makes it harder to look at half the files! do you need to hold a cams licence or anything? would it be availible on the day? on the membership form it says you must help in the running of atleast 2 events a year, but looking on their calender for the year i wouldnt be 100% i could make 2 events...i guess i could. i assume u can still join in on the events you're helping with? Quote
zedrally Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Everyone's welcome, you will need a CAMS licence to compete. Best advice I can give you is to join the NCCA (they are hosting one of the rounds). Once you are a member of a CAMS Affialted club you can then obtain a CAMS Licence. The 21st date came from the CAMS site www.cams.com.au then go to the Victorian page to find what events are upcoming in the next 7 days. http://www.cams.com.au/content.asp?PageID=StateVIC Quote
Rod F Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Motorkhanas are great. I did a number of them back 2002-2003 in my series 1 Bluebird. Probably the cheapest form of motorsport left (both in fees and running costs) plus you don't need a super duper car to have fun. Make sure your handbrake works though, for dirt courses you'll need it. Quote
zedevan Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 thanks for the info, from reading some of that stuff to get the licence your car has to have hood pins?? and the fire extinguisher has to b securly fastened, which mine isn't, amoungst other things so i might put my concintration elsewhere for a bit, but join up to NCCA if its the way to go Quote
zedrally Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 If your using the zed then you don't need hood pins. I didn't think you needed fire extinguisers for motorkhanas (didn't last time I entered one, but times change and you probably do now)! Quote
sid280 Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Correct me if i'm wrong - but that IS the westgate behind this track right? Its definately an aussie car... Quote
zedevan Posted January 15, 2007 Author Posted January 15, 2007 yeah, the bolty bridge however u spell it, so it must of been on one of the docklands docks, like where we had that photoshoot Quote
