wildy55 Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Now before you send bad karma down the line to me, I know that I could probably find my answer if I searched around the forum, but I seem to be spending most of my spare time driving/repairing/searching stuff about my '72 240Z. So to save my relationship, can anyone give me a simple answer to the wheel question; 16" or 17", standard springs or lower, and what tyre sizes to fit once I have the ZG flares on? I'm favouring 17's because tyres are much cheaper. I've been on to 18racing and they have quoted $1150 for Rota RB (17x7.5ft)and RBR (17x8.5rr) with +4 offset all round. Will these fit / look right (I've heard of -19 offset on rear) and is there anywhere that is doing these wheels for a better price? The price above includes delivery to Sydney. Any advice greatly reduces the nag ratio at home... Quote

wildy55 Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Yup saw these but couldn't see $2600 in my bank account... Quote
Toecutter Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Just get Ben Otomot's RBR's, best value. for zg flares, 17x9 front -13, 225 tyres, rear 17x9.5 -19, 245 tyers rear can't remember profile but more detail here, Oh yer cut and weld rear guards, a must do or don't bother with it because you'll own a 4wd S30 lookalike otherwise. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,788.0.html Sulio Quote
benny Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 hey sul... otomoto don't do rota anymore someone else does them!! Quote
wildy55 Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 Any clues as who does them now? And cutting/welding and flaring is ok on standard height suspension or do I need to lower them? Quote
benny Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 here you go http://www.rotaaustralia.com.au/RBX_c65198_65201_65401.htm Quote
Scottz Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Wildy55, I'm guessing you are asking for maximum width with your ZG flares. So go with the Sulio advice for size and offset. 114mm backspace is what you want. Finding that combination for less than $2500 is a challenge. Advice: 1). Do your research when she is not around, haha. What they don't know doesn't hurt 'em. 2). 17" have more choices. 16" look better (my opinion). Horses for courses. 3). Lower is the 'look' and very impressive so long as you don't have speed bumps on your street. 4). Group buys can be helpful, but be patient. Takes time to round up the support. 5). Buy you're wheels and get them delivered to your mates. Then a couple months later get your mate to drop them off with a bull$h!te story. "Found these on evil bay...knew you wanted them....grabbed them while they were hot....you can have them for what I paid......$800 thanks mate....okay, pay me tomorrow...drop the money at work.....blah, blah". She won't know any different from a $2000 wheel to a $200 wheel, so it works, trust me. Just act really surprised and happy. Like the song goes - "It's a man's world, but without women (and cars) it's nothingggggg". Scottz. Well - you did ask for advice! Quote
luvemfast Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Ahhh, thats gold Scott. + karma for being a sneaky bastard Quote
Sirpent Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 +1 for that one also, I agree with Simon. Quote
Scando Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'm running RB's 17x8.5 front and 17x9 rear with 245/40's on the front and 255/40's on the rear. If you go to 17x9 on the front you have to go to a skinny tyre like a 225 which kind of defeats the purpose of putting wide wheels on in the first place. Quote
Toecutter Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Thanks for the heads up Benny on the RBR's. Yer I had 17x8.5 on the front with -8 offset from memory. I ran a 225x45 tyre. After seeing the 17x9 -13 fronts I reckon they look better filling out the front flares more nicely. The 245 tyre on an 8.5 might do too I suppose. OP your lucky no need to be a guinea pig as plently have done it here with great results just look at the pics of Scondo's car for instance. OP asked about cutting guards. You need to cut them so you can lower the car and get the right stance. If you don't cut them you will need to keep the car jacked up high to maintain any suspension travel also will look like an extremly ugly S30 sitting so high unless you live with those people out where they filmed Deliverence. Cheers, Sulio Quote

It was a little extra work to get it right but it meant we could still have the low ride height and plenty of suspension travel which is what we needed. Quote
