GongZ Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Hi all, I have decided to make this a new topic rather than continuing to tack on to similar ones. Like many others, I want to carry out the infamous Toyota 4 spot front brake upgrade. I have read many, many posts here and on other sites which all recommend using the 15/16" Brake Master Cylinder for a 1979-1981 280ZX. I have also found however that these are not easy to find at what I consider a fair price. In my research I have discovered the (15/16") Dorman 39277 Brake Master Cylinder; http://www.dormanproducts.com/p-4829-m39277.aspx This is a new master cylinder and includes new reservoirs and caps, and is described as being suitable for a 2 seater or 2+2 1977-1978 280Z (Note: Z not ZX!). Rock Auto lists them at Aus$97.69 with postage being A$55.79; http://www.rockauto.com - search for Nissan>1978>280z>Brake/Wheel Hub>Master Cylinder They will actually send 2 for the same postage price of A$55.79 - mini-group buy anyone? Has anyone tried one of these in 240Z or 260Z (or 280ZX!), or know of any reason why this part and this car should not be joined together in... (you get the idea)? - Ian Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 From your description & photo, that unit will work. Quote
NZeder Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 I agree only difference I can see is the LHD designed = bleeders on the inner guard side not out to the engine bay - which is a non issue as you rarely bleed at the MC directly (except for install time) Quote
GongZ Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 Ok - thanks Lurch and NZeder. Is anybody else interested in buying one of these then? If you order one on your own, it will cost (all prices in US$) $97.89 + $55.90 postage = $153.79 If somebody wants to order with me, it will be = ($195.78 + $55.90)/ 2 = $125.84 + Australian postage from me to you. - similarly; 3 units = ($293.67 + $64.41)/ 3 = $119.36 + local postage 4 units = ($391.56 + $78.96)/ 4 = $117.63 + local postage 5 units = ($489.45 + $96.69)/ 5 = $117.23 + local postage Please reply here or pm me if you are interested. I don't want to drag this out too long - so please respond by this Saturday (8th Jan 2011). - Ian Quote
C.A.R. Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Ian, just buy the two & then sell the other one on here. Quote
GongZ Posted January 6, 2011 Author Posted January 6, 2011 I have taken Lurch's advice and ordered 2 of these - so expect to see one for sale soon. Quote

kolonelklink Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 nissan urvan 15/16 m/c will work. go to a scrapyard. remove the remote resovoir and fit the ones from your current m/c. costs <30 bucks. -pete Quote
stevofoxono Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 pete would that work for a series one 280zx? just after a master cyl that'll bolt on to the brakes i have atm (stock) Quote
kolonelklink Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 honestly i dont know. my suspicion would be yes. just grab your old mc, go down to you local jap wrecker and ask nicely to look through thier "old nissan/datsun" brake bins untill you find something which matches the old mc flange pattern... you'll probably end up with an urvan mc with a remote res. i have now exhausted my knowledge on this topic. -pete Quote
stevofoxono Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 i have $80 credit with the nissan wreckers near home might take you up on your advice, my old mc's still attached to the car so might take the whole lot, see what else they've got lol Quote
GongZ Posted January 20, 2011 Author Posted January 20, 2011 I have received my Brake Master Cylinder from Rock Auto (A$221.64 delivered - as stated previously). It turns out to be made by Nabco and has 'square' reservoirs rather than cylindrical versions as shown in the photo on their website, and included in my earlier post. Ironically, it looks identical to the Dorman brand shown in my original post! Attached are some photos of what I received, including one of the label on the box - showing the part number details. The plastic bag that it was packed in bears a label stating "46010-P6500 Made in Japan". Quote
NZeder Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Looks good - square reservoirs look like they will hold more too Quote
