Hi all

Long time lurker, first time poster. I have owned a 260z, #871 I think, for about seven years. I had an RB25DE left over from a conversion and was looking for somewhere to put it when I was asked to fix a problem child 240z at work. It was no problem, just old school technology, the stuff I grew up on. That was when the bug bit and about 6 months later I purchased a basket case from someone who realised their project was bigger than their ability and I towed it home. My wife took it well, but I did not have anywhere to tackle the project properly.

Life changed, I changed jobs twice, moved house so that I ended up with a 10m x 9m shed, got caught up in other several other projects and had a child so the z was on the back burner. I never forgot it though, scrounging up a factory sump from jap z31 along with dip stick and gearbox braces and gathering various gearbox parts.  Last year I installed the engine and stripped the injected loom down to the bare essentials, built a gearbox that utilised the factory shift point, fabricated the gearbox cross member and got the engine running.

I recently read “Genesis of weekend warrior” post and was inspired to tackle to body work. The rear beaver panel was damaged by someone towing the vehicle utilising the rear hatch latch point as tow point and the strike panel badly rusted. I have started there thinking that it will be the worst point, the hardest to fix. It is otherwise not too bad although I have not stripped the paint completely so I am only guessing. Left hand sill, floor and front chassis leg have some rust as well as the base of the right a pillar. The doors, hatch and hanging panels seem ok although I realised I am missing the front apron. The joys of buying cars in pieces.

I have been reading the forums for some time, gathering information and inspiration, and decided it was time to introduce myself. I look forward to continuing to learn from your experiences and maybe eventually helping others with mine. One day I hope to drive my z to some meets, but that is some time off I fear.

Cheers

Wayne

Welcome, another "G" in the house :D.

Some Pictures are a must and i have a front apron here that needs a bit of a straighten (don't they all) but is still useable that you can have if you can't find one.

Some general shots of the body rust etc. The RB ready to come back out so the engine bay can be stripped. The L26 is under wraps in the corner just in case. The only structural change made for the RB is an additional hole in the firewall for loom.
