Bigfella Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I'm after a replacement sill for my 2+2. I was wondering if anyone can give me advice on the best place to get them. Are these any good http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230557151264#ht_1750wt_907 I know Rare spares also have them. I think Lurch mentioned these were ok but may have only been for a 2 seater. and maybe All Z parts. I'm just wondering what ones will suit the 2+2 best. Thanks Matt Quote
benny Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 from stuff ive read... some of the fitment on these parts are quite poor!! Maybe it would be better for you to cut a section of your existing sill and get a piece the length of the sill bent and formed to match?? This should ensure a good fit!! Ben Quote

Ben You've seen the car Benny. I would be struggling to get a section of the sill that isn't just held together by rust. Quote
Scoota G Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 What if i cut a section from dales parts car and get a couple fabricated up here, i'm in Melbourne often! Quote

Scoota G Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I bought two door skins from rare spares and the fit was perfect. Quote
Bigfella Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 I would be interested if any one has used some on a 2+2 Quote
benny Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 surely there atleast 1 little 1 inch section you can pull from it.... or maybe not Quote
KatoKid Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Matt. I just replaced the sills on my 240 using full lentgh repro's from All Z Spares, they werent a great fit but with some effort they came out fine. These ones listed on evil bay dont have the closed in boxes at the front and rear by the looks of it and that's why they say they will fit all models, having said that I dont think anyone else does a complete sill for a 2+2 so you may be stuck with these folded alternatives as opposed to the full length pressings. May be a good thing anyway as these may fit better than the pressings. David Quote

But not sure if that would be of any benefit as I would still have to get a bit bent up to go in the middle. Quote
KatoKid Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I reckon go with the folded ones and fabricate the boxes...asssuming they are knackered. Quote

zzajw Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 Matt I presume that you want the right side. I have a brand new Nissan original complete right hand sill in my garage - has been there for 20 years! Not needed as I ended up cutting the rust out 15 years ago and it never came back. Only hassle is that the sill is in NZ. If you run out of other options let me know and we will see if we can work something out. Adrian Quote

To bad about the distance barrier. I'm sure I will come up with another option. Quote

Check out his build thread at the bottom of his Posts. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,7636.0.html You'll see the extent of the rust. Quote
Bigfella Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 Gee's Scoota now your just being mean. Quote
Scoota G Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I think it's a challenge but certainly fixable. Quote
Bigfella Posted December 7, 2010 Author Posted December 7, 2010 I think it's a challange but certainly fixable. If it was a 2 seater I don't think I would think twice. But being a bus I do often wonder why I'm doing it. But I'm still having fun, So thats what its all about. Quote
Brabham Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Does all z do sills for a 2+2? From what i have read their sills are the best as they have the box sections. You could try Nissan, they still do quite a bit of stuff. Failing that the best option I can see would be to buy 2 of each side 2 seater sills from all z if the box sections are the same as the 2+2, then cut and extend each side using a length from the spare sills. We have to save all the 260s, not just the 2 seaters!!! Quote
Scoota G Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I've seen a lot of Fabrication on this site and in person but recently i've been toying with the idea of using other zed parts for donor grafts. Fuel Tank parts for the end of sills. Dash supports for fuel tank door repairs. Roofs for bonnet repair. ... and so on, i think i'll start a different thread as people here often throw bits out that if we could figure out the bits that rust Vs the shape of some of the bits we throw out it would save time, money, blah blah blah. nat0_240_chevZ Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 i could press up new sills..... been thinking about it for a while, but been really busy. probably do them in a section anywhere from 1200-1500mm long, unless someone tells me there a different length. I dont own a bus nor have one @ my disposal anymore, however i just got a bus frontcut so would have a sill section available to copy from...... nat0 Quote

nat0_240_chevZ Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 how long are they????front to back?? i know its about 2-3m longer than the 2 seaters Quote
Bigfella Posted December 14, 2010 Author Posted December 14, 2010 how long are they????front to back?? i know its about 2-3m longer than the 2 seaters I must admit I'm not 100% sure yet, at what point I need to add the ends. I was looking at the car the other night and was trying to work out how I should go about it. The back of the sill has almost all gone with rust but it is not to bad up the front end. I'm not sure what is involved up the front end of the sill as it looks like it has a lot more form to it than the back. It also runs in under the front door jamb. I would be interested if anyone has done a full sill could give me some guidance, Then I could work out how long I need it to be. I'm still tossing up weather it is worth getting a sill from Rare spares that has the formed ends and joining some in the middle. Quote
benny Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 i wreckon you should get the rare spare ones then chop them and take it to a metal guy or nato to match the folds, get it pressed up in a length of say 1200 and just take what you need!! Ben Quote
