bryan3976 Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 It might not be too much of a classic but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to devote a spotlight to this Nissan S13 Silvia. What made this ride stand out form all the other cars at the recent G-Works drag meet in Sendai Hi-Land was the engine powering it. While a lot of owners of vintage cars we see seem to ditch their old engines for something more modern, powerful and reliable, here is someone that has that has done the complete opposite with his car. visit speed hunters for more pics http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/10/08/car-spotlight-gt-gt-l28-powered-s13-silvia.aspx Quote
zzzzed Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 there is an r33 skyline getting around my town with an l24 in it Quote
NZeder Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 when the RB first came out in R31 skyline and the like, guys were removing them and installing L6 as they knew how to tweak them but the new RB had next to no aftermarket parts or knowledge of how to mod was no existent Quote
Six_Shooter Posted October 11, 2010 Posted October 11, 2010 That would be one of the last engines I would opt to install in a Silvia. I mean I like my L28 in my 240, but it's only still there, because I haven't had time to swap to a V6 yet, and I have some time and money invested in the turbo and EFI swap, so I want to continue to play with that for the next year or so, when I DO plan on swapping to my V6. Quote
zzzzed Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 why a v6 and what sort of v6. I think i would prefer the l28et to a vg30et I know because i have a vg30et if that is what you are thinking. And if you are thinking vg30dett you would be better off with a rb. There is alot mor support for after market parts Quote
Six_Shooter Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Nope, no Nissan engines for me. I will NEVER install an RB in anything, they are the Small Block Chevy of import engines. Why the V6 I will be using? Because I like it and know it well. I can also make plenty of power from it. Quote
zzzzed Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 . , they are the Small Block Chevy of import engines. . that isnt actualy a bad thing. things become popular for a reason, because they work. The chevy is the best of the american engines so ill take that as a compliment Quote
DatPilot Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 The conversion could of been bought on a cost basis, as in 'for-sale, 250kw L28 engine package with 500nM of torque, only $5000' Then to get the same for an RB/VG conversion would b up to $10,000 hypothetical of course. My pick would be a VG30DET, and the VQ series too. I have 2x VG's inthe garage, still NFI what to do with them though Quote
peter mc Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 hi i am yet to see a na rb that has more power than a good L28 /l32 Quote
Six_Shooter Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 that isnt actualy a bad thing. things become popular for a reason, because they work. The chevy is the best of the american engines so ill take that as a compliment I know you're in Australia so it's understandable how you would mis-construe what I say as a compliment, but it is quite the opposite. SBCs are boring, they get swapped into everything, and not because they are "good", because they are popular, and parts are easy to get. The technology is quite outdated by this point, and smaller displacement GM engines (along with many other smaller displacement engines) are out performing the SBC, yet people STILL continue to swap SBCs in to most projects. I swapped an EFI SBC with a 700R4 into my boss' '62 Chevy Suburban, I tried to convince him to do something different, even swap in the extra L28 I had sitting around. In this discussion we got talking about how boring the SBC swap is, and how everyone does it. He said, "That's because you can fix it at the corner store", to which I replied, "If it's done right, you don't need to fix it at the corner store." I view the RB in a very similar light as the SBC, it's getting swapped into everything, and while it does work well, and has great potential (more than the SBC IMO), it gets boring when I see them swapped into many different cars. FWIW, I am very involved in building and upgrading two family toys that have SBCs, and wouldn't have them any different. The one was built by my late uncle originally, and while I am changing some details as it is going back together, the overall look is remaining the same as he wanted it to be. The other was built by my Grandfather, my late uncle and myself, I just recently got the EFI swap working properly on it, and uses an unique intake system. Quote
bryan3976 Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 very interesting i love my l28s maybe you should try a rotary engine and what dose this stand for FWIW, Quote
luvemfast Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 and what dose this stand for FWIW, For What It's Worth That's how I read it FWIW Quote
Six_Shooter Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Thought about a rotary, but the only "rotary" I will use will have multiple batteries connected to it. That's a different project though. Yes, For What It's Worth. Quote
