Which side is the fuel tank on????? I didn't know this!!

I have been driving (legally) for over 3 decades. One would think I would have noticed the little secret on my dash that was staring me right in the face the whole time. I didn't and I bet you probably haven't either. Quick question, what side of your car is your petrol tank? If you are anything like me, you probably can't remember right away. My solution is to uncomfortably stick my head out the window, strain my neck and look. If you don't do this in your own car you definitely have done it in a borrowed or rental car.

Well ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to share with you my little secret so you will no longer look like Ace Ventura on your way to the petrol station or put your neck at risk of discomfort or injury.

If you look at your petrol gauge, you will see a small icon of a petrol pump. The handle of the petrol pump will extend out on either the left or right side of the pump. If your tank is on the left, the handle will be on the left. If your tank is on the right, the handle will be on the right. It is that simple!

I don't know how you feel right now but when I found out this morning I felt cheated!

Why don't the dealers share such important information with car buyers? I don't understand why this isn't in the owner's manual?

I don't get why any mechanic I have ever been too or know has even thought of mentioning this to me? The only possible explanation can be that all these people probably don't even know!

Go out and share the worlds best kept car secret with your friends as this information is way too important to be kept secret.

Doesn't work on any of my cars (tried a few of them, which is ok because I just remember that they are backwards).

You have to feel for all the people who purchased a 240Z brand new from the dealer,, who forgot to tell new car buyers that they had to put fuel in the petrol tank when the gauge gets to that little pump handle picture on the dash gauge

My fuel tank is in the middle at the back of the car :o

The fuel filler on the other hand is on the drivers side.

Where does the handle face if your fuel filler is behind your number plate  ???

Scoota did you hear the voice??  What else does it say to you?  Does it ever call you a d%^khead!!?

Don't listen to the voices, Don't listen to the voices, Don't listen to the voices, Don't listen to the voices, Don't listen to the voices, ......

I found this and thought it might be helpful.  I confess that I failed to check the information against every car in every market to ensure the accuracy of the information.  Feel free to list each vehicle that this information doesn't apply to, so that people can carry that list around in their heads.  Should make for a fascinating thread!

I apologise for all the angst that I have caused.  I realise that this information of varying accuracy may haunt each of you and that realisation makes me sad.

Hang on a second ....  no it wont .... I don't care.

PS: I have a splitting headache, that I've had for a couple of days now, so you can all go and get ...... a new Zed.
